Providence, RI--Head Coach Maria Morin’s (Career record: 299-197-4, .602) team finished the 2007 season with a 41-7 overall record and a 12-2 (first place) mark in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen won their third consecutive Little East Conference Regular Season Championship and established a new program record for league wins. RIC won its second consecutive Little East Conference Softball Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Div. III New England Regional Softball Championships for the second straight season as well.

The top-seeded Anchorwomen hosted the NCAA Div. III New England Regional Softball Championship for the first time and went a perfect 4-0, defeating Framingham State (3-2), Endicott (10-3) and Tufts twice (3-0, 8-4) en route to winning the region for the first time and earning a date in the NCAA Div. III National Championship Round.

The Anchorwomen’s magical season came to an end with losses to Wisconsin-Eau Claire (9-1) and Plattsburgh State (10-3) in Salem, Virginia on May 18 and 19.

Rhode Island College established a new school record for wins (41) in a season, breaking the 2006 squad’s previous high mark of 35 by six. The softball program also recorded its ninth consecutive season with 20 or more wins. Coach Morin, Associate Head Coach Ken Stanley and Assistant Coach Kristen Norberg were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as the New England Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Senior pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) wrapped up her amazing career as an Anchorwoman, appearing in 122 career games, starting 98 of them. Riley posted a 77-20 record to go along with five saves, a 1.54 ERA, 600 strikeouts, 59 complete games and 23 shutouts. She is Rhode Island College’s all-time leader in career appearances, games started, wins, relief appearances (24, and shutouts. Riley ranks second in both innings pitched and strikeouts, while placing third in career ERA and fourth in complete games.

As a senior in 2007, Riley was named a Second Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). She was also named the Cox Sports Television Rhode Island Female Athlete of the Year, First Team All-New England, the Little East Conference’s Co-Pitcher of the Year and garnered First Team All-Little East honors. She was named to the 2007 NCAA N.E. Regional’s All-Tournament Team where she went 3-0 in four appearances with a 0.97 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. The senior righty appeared in 43 games, starting 36 of them. Riley was 29-5 with a 1.12 earned run average and two saves. She struck out 233 batters in 219.1 innings of work and logged 12 shutouts. Her 2007 campaign established new program records for the most games started (36), wins, innings pitched, strikeouts and shutouts in a season. Riley established the longest consecutive winning streak in NCAA Div. III softball history (43 games) to date, which began on Mar. 17, 2006 and ended on Apr. 22, 2007 in a 4-0 loss to Keene State. As a hitter, she batted .500, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two hits, one double and two RBI. She owned a .750 slugging percentage, a .500 on-base percentage and a .967 fielding percentage.

As a junior in 2006, Riley was the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Year, a First Team All-LEC selection and a First Team All-NEISCA All-Star. She appeared in 34 games, starting 27 of them, and was 26-2 with two saves, a 1.38 ERA and 172 strikeouts in 192.1 innings pitched. She was also a First Team All-New England selection and was named to the 2006 NCAA Div. III New England Regional Softball Tournament’s All-Tournament Team as an At-Large selection. At the plate, Riley batted .254 (18-for-71) with 10 runs scored, 18 hits, five doubles, seven RBI and two stolen bases. She owned a .324 slugging percentage, a .329 on-base percentage and a .969 fielding percentage.

As a sophomore in 2005, she appeared in 25 games, starting 17 of them. She owned a 12-6 record with one save. She had a 2.19 ERA and pitched five complete games. In 112 innings, she struck out 101 batters. As a hitter, she played in 18 games, starting 13 of them. She batted .189 with seven hits, one triple, eight walks, one stolen base, eight runs scored and four RBI. Riley owned a .243 slugging percentage, a .333 on base percentage and a .897 fielding percentage.

As a freshman in 2004, she appeared in 20 games, starting 18 of them. She owned a 10-7 record with a 2.01 ERA. In 104.2 innings pitched, she struck out 94 batters. As a hitter, Riley played in 26 games, starting 24 of them. She batted .354 with 23 hits, three doubles, one triple, five walks, five runs scored and 10 RBI. Riley owned a .431 slugging percentage, a .400 on-base percentage and a .903 fielding percentage.

She is a physical education major and a 2003 graduate of North Providence High School.

Senior catcher Kristyn Alexander (East Wareham, MA) closed out her RIC career having played in 169 games, starting 161 of them. She batted .327 with 46 runs scored, 163 hits, 27 doubles, four home runs, 91 RBI and five stolen bases. She owned a .406 career slugging percentage, a .418 on-base percentage and a .989 fielding percentage. Alexander is Rhode Island College’s all-time leader in career at-bats (498), RBI and hit by pitch (11), is second in hits and total bases (202), tied for third in sacrifice flies (4), fourth in doubles, walks (38) and putouts (656), tied for fourth in home runs, seventh in batting and 10^th in slugging percentage.

As a senior in 2007, Alexander was named First Team All-Little East and to the NCAA N.E. Regional’s All-Tournament Team as an at-large selection. She played in 46 games, starting 43 of them. She batted .364 with 15 runs scored, 48 hits, seven doubles, three home runs and 30 RBI. She owned a .485 slugging percentage, a .437 on-base percentage and a .990 fielding percentage.

As a junior in 2006, she was named Third Team All-New England At-Large and Second Team All-Little East Conference. Alexander played in 44 games, starting all of them. She batted .326 (43-for-132) with 14 runs, 43 hits, 10 doubles and a team-high 28 RBI. She owned a .402 slugging percentage, a .396 on-base percentage and a .995 fielding percentage.

As a sophomore in 2005, Alexander was named Second Team All-Little East Conference as a catcher. Alexander played in 42 games, starting 37 of them. She batted .270 with 31 hits, five doubles, one home run, five runs scored, 13 RBI and five walks. She owned a .339 slugging percentage, a .311 on-base percentage and a .988 fielding percentage.

As a freshman in 2004, she was named the Little East Conference’s Rookie of the Year and also earned First Team All-Little East honors as a designated player. Alexander played in 37 games, starting all of them. She batted .345 with 41 hits, five doubles and 20 RBI. Alexander also had eight walks, 12 runs scored, a .387 slugging percentage, a .380 on-base percentage and a .962 fielding percentage.

She is a physical education major and a 2003 graduate of Wareham High School.

Junior first baseman Christie Lotti (Waterford, CT) was named Second Team All-New England, received the Little East Conference Player of the Year Award for the second straight season and garnered her third consecutive First Team All-Little East selection. Lotti was also named to the NCAA Div. III New England Regional All-Tournament Team at first base. She played in 48 games, starting 47 of them. Lotti batted .424 with 50 runs scored, 67 hits, 13 doubles, 11 triples, three home runs, 25 RBI and 13 stolen bases. She owned a .703 slugging percentage, a .477 on-base percentage and a .970 fielding percentage. Lotti established new single-season program records for the most at-bats (158), runs scored, hits, total bases (111), as well as tying her own mark for triples. She is already Rhode Island College’s all-time leader in career batting (.418), runs scored (126), hits (185), doubles (33), triples (28), home runs (12), total bases (310), slugging percentage (.700) and walks (43). She is 56 at-bats, 19 RBI and eight stolen bases from becoming RIC’s all-time leader in those categories as well.

Junior third baseman Krystal Bilek (Fitchburg, MA) was named to the NCAA Div. III New England Regional All-Tournament Team at third base. She played in 48 games, starting 47 of them. She batted .291 with 26 runs scored, 41 hits, seven doubles, one triple, three home runs, 30 RBI and five stolen bases. She owned a .418 slugging percentage, a .350 on-base percentage and a .899 fielding percentage.

Junior shortstop Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT) played in 34 games, starting 29 of them. She batted .329 with 15 runs scored, 23 hits, four doubles, one triple, one home run and 12 RBI. Rosa owned a .457 slugging percentage, a .390 on-base percentage and a .917 fielding percentage.

Sophomore second baseman Justine Burgess (Uxbridge, MA) was named First Team All-Little East Conference. Burgess was also named to the NCAA Div. III New England Regional All-Tournament Team at second base. She played in 39 games, starting 37 of them. Burgess batted .296 with 21 runs scored, 29 hits, five doubles, one triple, 26 RBI and three stolen bases. She owned a .367 slugging percentage, a .415 on-base percentage and a .951 fielding percentage. As a pitcher, she appeared in five games, starting four of them. She was 1-0 with a 3.91 ERA and nine strikeouts in 14.1 innings.

Sophomore left fielder Kelli McCartin (Cranston, RI) was named to the NCAA Div. III New England Regional All-Tournament Team as an outfielder. She played in 36 games, starting 29 of them. McCartin batted .273 with 21 runs scored, 21 hits, six doubles, 13 RBI and one stolen base. She owned a .351 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a .932 fielding percentage.

Freshman catcher Stephanie Brown (Norton, MA) played in 10 games, starting five of them. She batted .176 with two runs scored, three hits and one RBI. She owned a .176 slugging percentage, a .222 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

Freshman pitcher Jenna Deveines (Lowville, NY) appeared in 13 games, starting four of them. She was 5-0 with a 2.14 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 32.2 innings.

Freshman center fielder Jackie Dube (Barrington, NH) was named to the NCAA Div. III New England Regional All-Tournament Team as an at-large selection. She played in 39 games, starting 37 of them. She batted .275 with 11 runs scored, 25 hits, one double, 13 RBI and two stolen bases. She owned a .286 slugging percentage, a .353 on-base percentage and a .979 fielding percentage.

Freshman utility player Amy Jackman (Toms River, NJ) played in 20 games, starting 10 of them. She batted .216 with two runs scored, eight hits, one double and three RBI. Jackman owned a .243 slugging percentage, a .216 on-base percentage and a .909 fielding percentage.

Freshman outfielder Jamie Mastrocola (Everett, MA) played in 30 games, starting 20 of them. She batted .262 with eight runs scored, 17 hits, one double, two triples, one home run, seven RBI and one stolen base. Mastrocola owned a .385 slugging percentage, a .284 on-base percentage and a .900 fielding percentage.

Freshman right fielder Michelle Perrin (Saugus, MA) played in 37 games, starting 34 of them. She batted .371 with 20 runs scored, 33 hits, one double, 18 RBI and two stolen bases. Perrin owned a .382 slugging percentage, a .456 on-base percentage and a .852 fielding percentage.

Freshman pitcher Jamie Sacco (Bellingham, MA) appeared in 18 games, starting four of them. She was 6-2 with a 2.24 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 43.2 innings.

Freshman utility player Mandy Shurgot (Woonsocket, RI) was named First Team All-Little East as a designated player. She was also named to the NCAA Div. III New England Regional All-Tournament Team as an at-large selection. Shurgot played right field, designated player, second base and shortstop during the season. She played in 39 games, starting 36 of them. Shurgot batted .370 with 27 runs scored, 37 hits, seven doubles, three triples, three home runs, 14 RBI and two stolen bases. She owned a .590 slugging percentage, a .448 on-base percentage and a .885 fielding percentage.

Freshman shortstop Kelsey Souza (Braintree, MA) played in 32 games, starting 27 of them. She batted .303 with 13 runs scored, 20 hits, one triple, 10 RBI and one stolen base. She owned a .333 slugging percentage, a .329 on-base percentage and a .878 fielding percentage.

Freshman outfielder Davia Spado (Schenectady, NY) played in 21 games, starting 16 of them. She batted .226 with nine runs scored, seven hits, two doubles, one home run, four RBI and two stolen bases. She owned a .387 slugging percentage, a .351 on-base percentage and a .958 fielding percentage.

Freshman designated player Cassie Taverna (Bedford, MA) played in 25 games, starting 12 of them. She batted .234 with nine runs scored, 11 hits, two doubles, one triple, one home run, 13 RBI and one stolen base. Taverna owned a .383 slugging percentage, a .294 on-base percentage and a .929 fielding percentage.

Freshman second baseman and pinch runner Robyn Zemienieski (Old Saybrook, CT) played in 24 games, starting two of them. She batted .182 with eight runs scored and two hits. Zemienieski owned a .182 slugging percentage and a .250 on-base percentage.
