2007 Rhode Island College Women’s Outdoor
Track & Field Season Summary
|
|
|
Providence, RI—Head
Coach Kevin Jackson’s women’s outdoor track & field team sent
two student-athletes to the NCAA Div. III Women’s Outdoor Track &
Field Championships, hosted
by
Wisconsin-Oshkosh on May 24-26. As a team, RIC
closed out the 2007 season at M.I.T.’s
Last Chance Qualifier on May 18.

|
|
The Anchorwomen
placed 17
(34 teams) with a team score of 16.0 at the NEICAAA Championships on
May 10-12. RIC placed 17 (28 Teams) with 11.5 points at the N.E.
Div. III Championships at Springfield on May 5.

|
|
|
|
Rhode Island College
placed
fifth (12 teams) overall with a team score of 74.0 and fifth (six
teams) in the Little East with a team score of 81.0 at the Little
East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Apr. 28.

|
|
|
|
Senior
Maggie Wenc (Pawtucket, RI) placed 18th in the discus
with a throw of 21.01 meters and 20th in the hammer with
a season-best throw of 2.39 meters at the Alliance Championships on
Apr. 28. She placed 14th in the discus with a season-best
throw of 22.86 meters and 15th in the hammer with a throw
of 20.75 meters at the Silfen Invitational on April 21. Wenc placed
12th in the discus with a throw of 19.81 meters and 18th
in the hammer with a throw 19.33 meters at the Elmer J. Swanson
Invitational on Apr. 14. She placed seventh in the hammer with a
throw of 23.30 meters and placed eighth in the discus with a
21.06-meter effort at the RIC Invitational on March 31. Wenc placed
21st in the discus with a throw of 21.74 meters at the
Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24. |

As a junior in 2006, she placed 14th in the discus and 19th
in the hammer with distances of 22.16 and 26.64 meters,
respectively, at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Apr. 29.
Wenc placed 18th in the discus with a distance of 23.03
meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 22. Wenc placed 15th
in the discus with a distance of 22.93 meters at the Solomon Husky
Invitational on Apr. 15. She placed ninth in the shot and sixth in
the discus with distances of 6.08 and 23.75 meters, respectively, at
the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 1.

As a sophomore in 2005, Wenc
placed 14th
in the discus and 17th in the hammer with throws of 22.54
and 23.57 meters, respectively at the Little East Conference/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on May 1. She placed 17th in the
discus and 13th in the hammer with throws of 20.46 meters
and 19.90 meters, respectively, at the Solomon Husky Invitational on
Apr. 23. She placed seventh in the discus and tenth in the hammer
with throws of 22.46 and 21.91, respectively, at the Albany
Invitational on Apr. 16. She placed 18th in the discus
and 16th in the hammer throw with distances of 69’09.00”
and 73’05.00”, respectively, at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9.

She is a health and physical education major and a 2002 graduate of
Tolman High School.

Sophomore Hannah Clark (Attleboro, MA)
placed
ninth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 15:22.15 at the Alliance
Championships on Apr. 28. She placed fifth in the 3,000 meters with
a time of 15:31.78 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 21. Clark
placed 13th in the 800 meters with a season-best time of
2:57.54 at the Elmer J. Swanson Invitational on Apr. 14. She placed
11th in the 3,000 meters with a season-best time of
13:40.88 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 7. Clark placed 13th
in the 800 meters with a time of 2:58.30 at the RIC Invitational on
Mar. 31. She placed 43rd in the 1,500 meters with a
season-best time of 6:16.91 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24.

Sophomore Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI)
tied for
14th place in the high jump with an effort of 1.59 meters at the
NCAA Div. III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May
24-26. She placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.53 meters
and sixth in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 1:02.33 at
the Last Chance Meet on May 18. Fleming placed second in the high
jump with a season-best and new program record leap of 1.67 meters
and 20th in the long jump with a 4.84-meter effort at the
NEICAAA Championships on May 10-12. She earned All-New England
honors in the high jump, placing fourth at 1.56 meters at the N.E.
Div. III Championships on May 4-5. She also placed 15th
in the long jump at 4.79 meters at the same meet. Fleming earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in five events at the Alliance
Championships on Apr. 28. She placed eighth as part of the 4x100
relay team with a time of 56.53, first in the 800 meters with a time
of 2:23.83, seventh as part of the 4x400 relay team with a time of
4:37.62, second in the long jump with a season-best distance of 5.13
meters and first in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters. |

|
She placed
first in the long jump with a jump of 4.78 meters, fourth in the
high jump with a 1.50-meter effort and fourth in the 800 meters with
a time of 2:24.14 at the Silfen Invitational on April 21. Fleming
placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.24, second in the
long jump with a leap of 4.70 meters and third in the high jump with
a 1.55-meter effort at Elmer J. Swanson Invitational on April 14.
She placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.53 meters and
placed fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:09.58 at the
Bryant University Invitational on April 7. Fleming placed first in
the 1,500 meters, the high jump and long jump with a time of 5:09.40
and efforts of 1.55 and 4.70 meters, respectively, at the RIC
Invitational on Mar. 31. She placed seventh in the high jump with a
leap of 1.52 meter, and eighth in the 1,500 meters with a time of
4:48.98 at the Husky Spring Open on March 24. |

Sophomore
Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI) placed 17th in
the hammer with a throw of 43.34 meters at the 2007 NEICAAA
Championships on May 10-12. She earned
All-New England honors in the hammer, placing seventh at 43.59
meters at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 4-5. Horsman earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing first with a
season-best distance of 44.05 meters at the Alliance Championships
on Apr. 28. She placed first in the hammer with a throw of
43.99 meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 21. Horsman placed
first in the hammer with a throw of 41.53 meters at the Elmer J.
Swanson Invitational on April 14. She placed first in the hammer
with a throw of 43.65 meters at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 7.
Horsman placed first in the hammer with a throw of 42.34 meters at
the RIC Invitational on Mar. 31. |

Ashley Nyzio (Pawtucket, RI)
placed 17th in the javelin with an effort of 36.36 meters at the
NCAA Div. III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May
24-26. She placed third in the javelin with a throw of 34.79 meters
at the Last Chance Meet on May 18. Nyzio placed second in the
javelin with a throw of 38.80 meters at the NEICAAA Championships on
May 10-12. She earned All-New England honors in the javelin,
placing fourth with a throw of 36.74 meters at the N.E. Div. III
Championships on May 4-5. Nyzio earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in the javelin, placing second with a distance of 38.12
meters at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28. |

Invitational on April 21. Nyzio placed first in the javelin with a
throw of 36.99 meters at the Elmer J. Swanson Invitational on April
14. She placed second in the javelin with a throw of 39.13 meters
at the Bryant Invitational on April 7. Nyzio placed first in the
javelin with a season-best and new program record throw of 40.42
meters at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 31. She placed third in the
javelin with a throw of 38.44 meters at the Husky Spring Open on
Mar. 24. |

Freshman
Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) placed first in the shot with a
throw of 8.76 meters, fourth in the discus with an effort of 25.35
meter, and placed eighth in the hammer with a 41.01-meter effort at
the Last Chance Meet on May 18. She placed ninth in the hammer with
a throw of 41.27 meters and 14th in the discus with an
effort of 29.71 meters at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May
4-5. Bucci earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events at
the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28. She placed second in the
hammer with a 42.06-meter effort, second in the discus with a
distance of 32.97 meters and third in the shot at 10.35 meters. She
placed fifth in the discus with a season-best throw of 29.64 meters
and sixth in the shot with a throw of 10.42 meters at the Silfen
Invitational on Apr. 21. Bucci placed second in the shot with a
season-best and new program record throw of 10.77 meters, fourth in
the hammer with a throw of 35.51 meters and placed fourth in the
discus with a throw of 29.96 meters at Elmer J. Swanson Invitational
on Apr. 14. She placed second in the hammer with a throw of 39.52
meters, third in the discus with a throw of 31.59 meters and fourth
in the shot with a throw of 10.24 meters at the Bryant Invitational
on April 7. Bucci placed second in the hammer with a throw of 40.40
meters, fourth in the shot with a throw of 10.23 meters and fifth in
the discus with a throw of 24.96 meters at the RIC Invitational on
Mar. 31. She placed 12th in the discus with a throw of
31.43 meters and 12th in the shot with a throw of 10.22
meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24. |

Kendra DeGiulio (West Warwick, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little
East honors as part of the 4x100 meter relay team, which placed
eighth with a time of 56.53, at the Alliance Championships on Apr.
28. She also placed 20th in the 800 meters with a
season-best time of 2:57.12 at the same meet. She placed 29th
in the 800 meters with a time of 2:58.33 at the Silfen Invitational
on Apr. 21. |

Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) placed 14th in the triple
jump with a jump of 9.98 meters at the N.E. Div. III Championships
on May 4-5. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three
events at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28. She placed sixth in
the triple jump with a season-best effort of 10.22 meters, eighth as
part of the 4x100 meter relay team with a time of 56.53 and seventh
as part of the 4x400 meter relay team with a time of 4:37.62. Iby
placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 9.91 meters, eighth
in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 1:07.42 and ninth in
the 200 meters with a season-best time of 29.08 at the Silfen
Invitational on Apr. 21. She placed second in the triple jump with a
jump of 9.49 meters, seventh in the long jump with a jump of 4.35
meters and 10th in the 100 meters with a time of 14.09 at
the Elmer J. Swanson Invitational on April 14. Iby placed fourth in
the 100 meters with a season-best time of 14.01 and sixth in the
triple jump with a leap of 9.77 meters at the Bryant Invitational on
Apr. 7. She placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 9.5
meters, seventh in the long jump with a jump of 4.38 meter, and
ninth in the 100 meters with a time of 14.38 at the RIC Invitational
on Mar. 31. Iby placed 14th in the triple jump with a
leap of 9.32 meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24. |

Elizabeth Ann Glunt (Altoona, PA) earned All-Alliance/Little
East honors as part of the 4x100 meter relay team, which placed
eighth with a time of 56.53, as well as the 4x400 meter relay team,
which placed seventh with a time of 4:37.62 at the Alliance
Championships on Apr. 28. She placed 13th in the long
jump with a season-best leap of 4.72 meters and 10th in
the 400 meters with a season-best time of 67.24 at the same meet.
Glunt placed third in the long jump with a leap of 4.51 meters and
10th in 400 meters with a time of 1:08.29 at the Silfen
Invitational on Apr. 21. She placed fourth in the long jump with a
leap of 4.47 meters, 17th in the 200 meters with a time
of 29.61 and 18th in the 100 meters with a time of 14.65
at the Elmer J. Swanson Invitational on Apr. 14. Glunt placed fifth
in the long jump with a leap of 4.64 meters and ninth in the 400
meters with a time of 1:10.29 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 7.
She placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 4.39 meters, 10th
in the 200 meters with a time of 29.87 and 11th in the
100 meters with a season-best time of 14.62 at the RIC Invitational
on Mar. 31. Glunt placed 20th in the long jump with a
leap of 4.34 meters and 38th in the 200 meters with a
time of 30.32 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24. |

honors as part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which placed seventh
with a time of 4:37.62 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28.
Smith placed 14th in the 1,500 meters with a season-best
time of 6:10.48 at the same meet. She placed 16th in the
1,500 meters with a time of 6:20.04 at the Silfen Invitational on
Apr. 21. Smith placed 12th in the 1,500 meters with a
time of 6:10.52 at the Elmer J. Swanson Invitational on Apr. 14.
She placed 14th in the 800 meters with a season-best time
of 3:05.17 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 31. Smith placed 45th
