Danieli’s Career-High 24 Points Leads Anchorwomen Past RWU, 79-56
RIC Improves to 4-1 in 23-Point Victory |
Providence,
RI—Junior forward Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, ME)
torched Roger Williams for a career-high 24 points as Rhode Island
College improved to 4-1 in a battle of intra-state rivals. |
Danieli did it all
for the Anchorwomen, shooting 11-for-13 from the field. She added
seven boards, two assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Tyla
Martin (Cumberland, RI) logged 14 points, while senior forward
Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds for
her third double-double of the season. |
Freshman guard
Karen Ewanowsky (Middletown, CT) tried her best to keep the Hawks
in the game, scoring 12 of her 15 points, all of which came on
three-pointers, in the first half. Roger Williams cut RIC’s lead to
two points several times in the first stanza, but the Anchorwomen held
off the circling Hawks and went into the break with a 37-31 lead. |
Danieli was the key
factor in the second half, shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the field
as RIC cruised to its largest margin of victory so far this season.
RIC held Roger Williams’ leading scorer, junior guard Caitlyn Leone
(Irvington, NY), who was averaging 15.0 ppg coming into the game,
to just two points. |
Roger Williams,
which was playing its first game in 11 days, remains winless at 0-3.
RIC’s 79 points was its second-highest offensive output of the season. |
