RIC Drops Conference Opener, 76-56 |

Providence, R.I.—The
Rhode Island College women’s basketball team dropped its Little East
Conference opener this afternoon to Keene State College, 76-56. The
Owls raise their overall record to 4-0 and 1-0 in the conference
action, while the Anchorwomen fell to 4-2 and 0-1. |

Keene State was led
by a balanced attack, with five student-athletes registering at least
eight points. Senior forward Sarah Begnoche (Millvile,
Mass.)
paced the Owls attack with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore
guard Michele Boudreau (Readsboro,
Vt.)
also reached double figures with 10 points. |

Keene State got off
to a fast starting, scoring the first 12 points of the afternoon and
would never relinquish its advantage. Begnoche fueled the run with
eights points, on three field goals and a pair of free throw shots,
and an assist. |

|
Rhode Island
College would not go quietly in the first half, cutting the Owls
advantage to six points with 7:33 remaining. Junior forward Sherri
Heard (Coventry,
R.I.)
sparked a 10-0 run with two points, two offensive rebounds, an assist,
and a steal. |

|
The Anchorwomen
would not get any closer as Keene State closed the half with an 11-5
run of its own, taking a 33-21 lead into the locker room. |

|
|
Rhode Island
College returns to action at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 5, when the Anchorwomen
travel to Johnson & Wales. |
