Geisler and Heard Lead Women’s
Basketball To Victory, 70-61 |

NEW LONDON,
Conn.--The Rhode Island
College women's basketball team defeated Connecticut College this
evening, 70-61, at the Luce Fieldhouse. The Anchorwomen improved to
6-2, while the Camels fell to 3-4. |

Senior forward Kari Geisler
(Deerfield, N.H.)
and junior forward Sherri Heard (Coventry,
R.I.) poured in 14 points
apiece for the visitors, while Geisler also pulled in a game-high nine
rebounds. Junior guard Sarah Coughlin (North Attleboro, Mass.) dished out a
season-high 10 assists and eight points for the winning
side. |

Sophomore Dena
Weinstein (Mendham, N.J.) drained a career-high 16 points for
Connecticut College, adding three rebounds and two assists. Junior
co-captain Katy Serafin (Carmel, N.Y.) netted 18 points and hauled in
five boards for the hosts. Freshman point-guard Kirsten Frazer
(Pelham, N.Y.) contributed 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and
two steals for the Camels. |

RIC opened up a
34-23 lead with an 8-0 run that was capped by a field goal from
Jennifer Knott (Narragansett, R.I.) with 2:00 minutes remaining in
the opening half. The Camels countered with a 7-0 run of their own to
pull within four at the break, 34-30. |

The teams
continued to play a back and forth game up to the midpoint of the
second stanza. RIC finally found some breathing room with a 7-2 run.
Tyla Martin (Cumberland,
R.I.)
made it a 55-48 game with a
triple at the 8:26 mark. Weinstein and Serafin continued to make shots
for the Camels down the stretch but the visitors utilized their
penetration and post presence to get to the foul line. The Anchorwomen
took care of business at the charity stripe, connecting on 12-of-14
attempts in the second half. |

hold on for the 70-61 victory. |

|
Rhode Island
College returns to action at 1 p.m., when the Anchorwomen travel to
Plymouth State for a Little East Conference tilt. |
