PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode
Island College sophomore guard Cameron Stewart (Newport, R.I.)
was named to the Little East Conference weekly honor roll this
afternoon by the conference office. He averaged 16.0 points, 5.5
rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game as the Anchormen posted a 2-0 mark,
raising their overall record to 8-1. |

On Dec.
15, Stewart paced Rhode Island College with 19 points, on
six-for-eight from the field, as the Anchormen handed Springfield
College a 73-65 loss. He also knocked down a season-high four
3-pointers, pulled in five rebounds, and dished out three assists in
21 minutes of action. Earlier in the week, Stewart netted 13 points,
on five-for-eight from the floor, grabbed six boards, and handed out
three helpers as the Rhode Island College sunk Coast Guard, 76-71.

Stewart is
having a sensational campaign, leading the team in shooting (.571) and
steals (20, 2.2 spg), while ranking second field goals made (40),
points (121, 13.4 ppg), and rebounds (47, 5.2 rpg). Stewart has
reached double digits in scoring in seven consecutive contests,
including a season-high against the Pride. A consistent marksman, he
hasn’t shot under 50 percent from the field in his past eight games,
including a season-best 63.6 percent in his homecoming at Salve Regina
on Dec. 7. |

Under the
direction of Head Coach Bob Walsh, Rhode Island College is
enjoying its best start to a season since the 1992-93 squad also
recorded an 8-1 mark. The Anchormen return to action at 6 p.m. on Jan.
4, 2007, when Rhode Island College hosts Bridgewater State College in
non-conference action. |
