KEENE, N.H.—The
Rhode Island College women’s basketball team put a scare into Little
East Conference rival Keene State College this afternoon at
Spaulding Gymnasium, falling in overtime to the hosts, 59-50. The
Anchorwomen limited the Owls to just 16 points in the second half to
forge a 50-50 tie at the end of regulation |

Keene
State (11-5, 5-2 LEC) freshman Kristin Degou (Newburyport, Mass.)
broke the tie 35 seconds into the extra frame, converting on a layup.
Rhode Island College (10-7, 2-5) would not get any closer as the
Owls’ recorded all nine points in the overtime session to seal their
second straight victory over the Anchorwomen this season. |

Senior
forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, N.H.) paced Rhode Island
College with a season-high 22 points, while also hauling in eight
rebounds. Geisler led the comeback charge with 18 points, on
7-for-14 from the floor, and collected six caroms in the second
stanza. Junior forward Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, Maine)
turned in a balanced attack, scoring eight points and pulling in
eight rebounds |

The
Anchorwomen used a stifling defensive attack in the second half to
climb back into the contest, holding Keene State to just 7-for-29
from the field. The defensive pressure allowed the visitors to
outscore the hosts, 30-16, in the final 20 minutes of regulation,
whittling away a 16-point deficit. Geisler extended the game with a
layup with just 16 seconds remaining on the clock. |

Senior
forward Sarah Begnoche (Millville, Mass.) posted a
double-double, registering 22 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to
lead the Owls. Classmate guard Bri Barnes (Merrimack, N.H.)
also reached double figures in scoring, logging 12 points, while
Degou nearly collected a double-double of her own, netting nine
points and hauling in nine rebounds. |

Rhode
Island College returns to the hardwood on Jan. 23, when the
Anchorwomen travel to UMass Dartmouth for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. |
