Rhode Island College Wrestling Takes
Fifth Overall at NECCWA Duals

Bridgewater, MA— The Rhode Island College wrestling team powered their way to a 3-1 mark at the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) Duals, hosted by Bridgewater State on Sunday, Jan. 21.

The Anchormen dominated Norwich, 36- -1, in the first round, before falling to the eventual second place team and nationally-ranked Johnson & Wales Wildcats, 36-12. Rhode Island College rebounded with a win over Springfield, 34-15, and then steamrolled Williams, 44-0, to take fifth place out of the 15-team field.

Junior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) continued his winning ways, going a perfect 4-0 on the day, with three victories at his natural 141 lbs. weight class and one at 149 lbs. to go along with two pins. Bonora has won 20 consecutive matches to up his overall record to 33-3 with 127 takedowns, eight reversals, 11 near-falls and six pins.

Freshman Mike Martini (Cranston, RI) also went 4-0 at the NECCWA Duals, posting all of his wins at 157 lbs. Martini is riding a 12-match winning streak. He is 24-7 with 84 takedowns, 12 reversals, nine near-falls and two pins.

Senior Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA) was also on a roll, going 3-0 with three pins at the NECCWA Duals. His last four wins, and five of his last six victories, have been pins. He is 18-7 with 18 takedowns, eight reversals, six near-falls and a team-high 10 pins.

Senior Ray Hanley (Wantagh, NY) and junior Kevin Davis (Amston, CT) also turned in outstanding performances, going 4-0 and 3-0, respectively, to even their records at .500 on the season. Hanley is 13-13 at 133 lbs. with nine takedowns, eight reversals, 22 near-falls and seven pins. Davis is 12-12 at mainly 184 lbs. with 10 takedowns, four reversals, four near-falls and one pin.

Head Coach Jay Jones team is 9-6 overall. Rhode Island College returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 25 at Western New England College.
