ANCHORWOMEN DOWN CORSAIRS,
71-63
GEISLER POSTS SEVENTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE |

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA -
Rhode Island College outscored the University of Massachusetts
Dartmouth’s women’s basketball team,17-4, during the last 4:51 of the
first half to build a 43-27 halftime lead, and went on to a 71-63
victory in their Little East Conference game at the Tripp Athletic
Center Tuesday evening. |

Rhode
Island College senior forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) was
a force in the paint, posting her seventh double-double of the season
with a game-high 18 points and 14 rebounds. It was her third
double-double in her past four games. Four Anchorwomen scored in
double figures to help the club record their 11th win of the season. |

The Anchorwomen led, 26-23, after a pair of free throws by UMass
Dartmouth freshman guard
Amanda Poniatowski (Shelton, CT)
with 4:51 remaining. But a jump shot by freshman guard
Elise Robidoux (Southampton, MA)
and a pair of free throws by Poniatowski were all that the Corsairs
could muster before intermission. |

A 14-4 UMass Dartmouth run, which included a lay-up, free throw and
three-pointer by sophomore guard
Ashley Chard (Burlington, CT)
and senior guard
Merideth Morgan’s (Amherst, MA)
jumper, made it 48-44 with 12:43 to play. But six free throws and
lay-ups by RIC senior forward
Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH)
and freshman guard
Kirstyn Storti (Exeter, RI)
got the Anchorwomen going, and they built a 13-point lead, 67-54, with
1:51 to play. |

Poniatowski led UMass Dartmouth with 17 points, and Robidoux added 11.
Storti added 13 points, while Rosen and junior guard
Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI)
each had 12. The Corsairs made 44.9 percent of their shots from the
field, but were out rebounded, 35-34, and committed 27 turnovers. |

UMass
Dartmouth dropped to 4-13, 0-8 in conference play with the defeat,
while Rhode Island College improved to 11-7 and 3-5 with the victory.
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Keene State Saturday
afternoon in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader.
RIC will host Plymouth State Saturday in conference play. |
