IGLESIAS’ THREE SINKS ANCHORWOMEN, 56-51
GEISLER’S 21-REBOUND EFFORT NOT ENOUGH IN LOSS |
|
Providence, RI—Mitchell College freshman guard Jennifer
Iglesias (Waterbury, CT) drained a three-point shot with 31
seconds left in the second half to seal a 56-51 win over Rhode
Island College at The Murray Center on Tuesday evening. The loss
shocked the Anchorwomen who outrebounded the Pequots by an
astonishing 31 (65-34) boards. RIC turned the ball over 26 times and
shot 29.6 percent (21-for-71) from the field in the loss. |

The Anchorwomen
trailed by two with time running down, but ironically failed to
secure a missed Pequots’ shot, which led to Iglesias’ heroics. The
loss spoiled an outstanding performance by Rhode Island College
senior forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) who recorded her
ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 21
rebounds, which tied a school record for the second-highest single
game total. She was dominant in the paint, corralling 12 of the
team’s 31 offensive rebounds. Junior forward Josalee Danieli (New
Gloucester, ME) also notched a double-double with 10 points and
14 boards. |

Mitchell senior
guard Alva Jeffreys (Bridgeport, CT) led all scorers with 19
points and made five steals. Senior forward Shayna Barnes
(Tarrytown, NY) had 14 points, while Iglesias contributed 12. |
