DANBURY,
Conn. –The
Rhode Island College women’s basketball team earned its fourth
consecutive Little East Conference victory this evening at the
Feldman Arena, defeating Western Connecticut State University,
48-44. The Anchorwomen raised their overall record to 14-8 and 6-5
in the conference circuit, while the Colonials slip to 13-9 and
5-6. |

Rhode Island College exploded out of the gates, outscoring its hosts
11-1 in the opening 4:33 of regulation. The Anchorwomen dominated
the first frame, shooting at a 60 percent clip from the floor
(12-of-20), while limiting the Colonials to just 28 percent
(seven-of-25). Sophomore guard Tyla Martin (Cumberland, R.I.)
scored all of her team-high 11 points in the first half, on
five-of-six from the field, as the visitors headed into the
intermission holding a 10-point advantage, 30-20. |

Western Connecticut regrouped and found its shooting stroke early in
the second stanza, registering 14 unanswered points to take its
first lead of the contest, 34-30, on a 3-pointer by Katie Moffo
(Southington, Conn.) with 12:13 left. Unfazed by the charging
Colonials, junior forward Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, Maine)
put Rhode Island College in front to stay with just under seven
minutes remaining on the clock. Classmate guard Sarah Coughlin
(North Attleboro, Mass.) and Danieli each converted on a pair of
free throws in the closing seconds of the game to seal the road
victory. |

Martin was the lone Anchorwomen to reach double digits in scoring,
while Danieli logged nine points and five rebounds. Coughlin handed
out a team-best six assists, while also registering five steals.
Senior forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, N.H.) turned in a
balanced attack, netting seven points and collecting seven caroms.
