ANCHORWOMEN SEE FOUR-GAME LEC WIN STREAK END
Geisler’s 20-Points Not Enough in Loss to Southern Maine |
Gorham, ME—Rhode Island College saw its four-game Little
East Conference win streak come to an end in a 67-57 loss to No. 4
Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon at Hill Gymnasium. Senior
forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) led the Anchorwomen with
20 points and nine rebounds in the game. She currently
has 968 career rebounds, needing just 32 more to become only the second
player in Rhode Island College history with both 1,000 career points
and rebounds. |

Southern Maine senior forward Ashley Marble (Topsfield, ME)
and junior forward Angela Santa Fe (Derry, NH) combined to
score 50 of the Huskies’ 67 points in the win. Marble recorded her
14th consecutive double-double and 16th of the season grabbing a
game-high 15 rebounds to go along with her game-high 28 points.
Marble was 10-for-19 from the floor and 8-for-9 from the charity
stripe and added four assists and two steals. Santa Fe notched a
career-best 22 points with an 8-for-15 mark from the floor and
chipped in with seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Stacey Kent
(Northwood, NH) tossed in 10 points and snagged a game-high
five steals to round out the three Huskies in double figures on the
day. |
Marble started the game hot from the floor, shooting an impressive
7-for-11 from the field, and was just one rebound shy of a
double-double in the first half as she scored 18 points and grabbed
nine boards as USM jumped out to a 36-22 lead at the half. Santa Fe
tallied 11 of her 22 in the opening half. |
Both Marble and Santa Fe continued to click in the second half as
Southern Maine increased its advantage to 17, 39-22, in the opening
play of the stanza. Santa Fe drained her lone three-pointer of the
game off of an assist from Marble. The Huskies maintained a
double-digit lead throughout the second half and led by as many as
16 points with under three minutes to play before Rhode Island
College was able to creep with eight of USM, 63-55, in the final
minute of action. |
Trailing by 16, 63-47, with 2:51 to play, Rhode Island College
scored eight unanswered points as the Huskies misfired on its next
five shots to pull to with striking distance of USM 63-55 with 50
seconds remaining. Geisler and senior forward Brittany Rosen
(Derry, NH) scored four points each in the run. However, it
wasn’t enough for the Anchorwomen as USM held off the attack
outscoring Rhode Island College, 4-2, in the final 30 seconds.
Southern Maine finished the game shooting 41.4 percent (24-for-58)
from the field and 73.9 percent (17-for-23) from the free throw
line. Rhode Island College shot 45.2 percent from floor making 19
of its 42 field goal attempts, but was hampered by 32 turnovers as
the Huskies made 17 steals in the contest. |
RIC junior forward Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, ME) had
17 points and eight rebounds. |

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host UMass Dartmouth
on Tuesday, Feb. 13 on Senior Night. Geisler and Rosen, RIC’s two
lone seniors, will be honored prior to the game. |
