Wrap Up Regular Season |

Boston, MA—Rhode Island College junior forward
Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, ME) made a free throw with 25
seconds left in regulation to lift the Anchorwomen to a 69-68 win
over UMass Boston at the Clark Athletic Center on Saturday
afternoon. Rhode Island College improves to 16-9 overall and 8-6 in
the Little East Conference and has secured the fourth seed in the
upcoming 2007 LEC Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Anchorwomen
will host fifth-seeded Eastern Connecticut at The Murray Center on
Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. |

Rhode Island College senior forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH)
achieved another milestone as she grabbed her 1,000th
career rebound with 11:13 remaining in the game. She currently has
1,175 career points, which ranks her seventh all-time at RIC, and
1,001 career boards, which ranks her second. She joins Rhode Island
College Athletic Hall of Famer Cathy Lanni ’88 as the only
two players in school history with 1,000 or more points and
rebounds. Geisler logged her 11th double-double of the
season with a 22 point, 18-rebound effort in the win. |

Danieli led all scorers with a game-high 23 points to go along with
nine rebounds. |

The Beacons led at the half, 31-28, but the Anchorwomen shot an
amazing 65 percent from the field (17-for-26) in the final frame to
outscore UMass Boston, 41-37, and earn the victory. The Anchorwomen
led, 68-66 with 38 seconds left in the game, but UMass Boston junior
guard LaKeisha Tucker (Pawtucket, RI) hit two crucial free
throws to tie the contest. Danieli was fouled on the ensuing
possession and after making the first from the charity stripe, she
missed the second and the rebound was controlled by UMB senior
forward Denise B. Ridge (Milton, MA). Rhode Island College
sophomore guard Tyla Martin (Cumberland, RI) made a steal
with three seconds left to preserve the win for the Anchorwomen. |
|
|
|
UMass Boston junior center Alicia Querusio (Somerville, MA)
led three Beacons who reached double figures in scoring with a
15-point effort. Ridge registered a double-double with a 11-point,
10-rebound effort, while senior guard Lydia Coverdale (Malden,
MA) had 11 points and seven rebounds. |
|
|
|
Rhode Island College’s 16 wins are the most in a season for the
Anchorwomen in three years and their eight conference wins are the
most since 1998-99. |
