2006-07 Wrestling Season Summary

13-10 Overall;
9-7 in the NECCWA; 3-3 in the Pilgrim Wrestling League |

Head Coach Jay Jones’ team closed out the 2006-07 season at
the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA)
Championships, hosted by Roger Williams University on Saturday and
Sunday, Feb. 17-18. The Anchormen finished in eighth place with 60
points. RIC had one wrestler attain All-American honors, one New
England Champion and four wrestlers achieved All-New England status. |

The Rhode Island College wrestling team posted a
13-10 overall record, was 9-7 in the NECCWA and 3-3 in Pilgrim
Wrestling League action. |
|
|
|
Senior Andrew Algarin (Leominster, MA) closed
out his career with a 41-29 (.683) overall record to go along with
168 points, 41 takedowns, five reversals, 46 escapes, four
near-falls and 14 pins. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2006-07, Algarin earned All-New
England honors at 285 lbs., placing sixth at the 2007 NECCWA
Championships. He was 19-14 with 81 points, 22 takedowns, two
reversals, 19 escapes, one near-fall and seven pins. He placed
second at 285 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational and sixth at
285 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational. |

|
As a junior in 2005-06, Algarin was 17-10 at 285 lbs.
with 63 points, 14 takedowns, three reversals, 24 escapes, three
near-falls and four pins. He placed third at 285 lbs. at the Roger
Williams Invitational, third at 285 lbs. at the Doug Parker
Invitational and sixth at 285 lbs. at the R.I.T. Invitational. |

|
As a freshman in 2002-03, he was 5-5 at 285 lbs. with
24 points, five takedowns, three escapes and three pins. |
|
|
|
Algarin is a psychology major and a 2000 graduate of
Leominster High School. |
|
|
|
Senior Ian Coyne (Amston, CT) closed out his
career with a 46-48 (.489) record to go along with 160 points, 87
takedowns, 30 reversals, 131 escapes, 10 near-falls and three pins.
|
|
|
|
As a senior in 2006-07, Coyne was 17-12 at 165 lbs.
with 59 points, 33 takedowns, 12 reversals, 20 escapes, three
near-falls and one pin. He placed fourth at 165 lbs. at the Doug
Parker Invitational. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2005-06, he as 14-13 at 165 lbs. with
53 points, 28 takedowns, 10 reversals, 39 escapes, six near-falls
and two pins. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2004-05, Coyne was 3-12 at 157 lbs.
with nine points, six takedowns and two reversals. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2003-04, he was 12-11 at 157 lbs.
with 39 points, 20 takedowns, six reversals, 43 escapes and one
near-fall. |
|
|
|
Coyne is a communications major and a 2003 graduate
of RHAM High School. |
|
|
|
Senior Ryan DeSisto (Warwick, RI) closes out
his career with a 21-24 (.467) record to go along with 91 points, 56
takedowns, 12 reversals, 56 escapes, 11 near-falls and seven pins. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2006-07, DeSisto was 5-7 at 149 lbs.
with 22 points, 14 takedowns, one reversal, 16 escapes, three
near-falls and two pins. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2005-06, he was 6-5 at 141 lbs. with
24 points, 18 takedowns, six reversals, 12 escapes, six near-falls
and one pin. He placed sixth at 141 lbs. at the Doug Parker
Invitational. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2004-05, DeSisto was 9-7 at 141
lbs. with 39 points, 23 takedowns, three reversals, two near-falls
and three pins on the season. He placed fifth at 141 lbs. at the
R.I.T. Invitational. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2003-04, he was 1-5 at 141 lbs. with
six points, one takedown, two reversals, five escapes and one pin. |
|
|
|
DeSisto is a criminal justice major and a 2003
graduate of Pilgrim High School. |
|
|
|
Senior Ray Hanley (Wantagh, NY) closes out his
career with a 63-68 (.481) record to go along with 295 points, 55
takedowns, 52 reversals, 97 escapes, 72 near-falls and 23 pins. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2006-07, Hanley was 14-20 at 133 lbs.
to go along with 67 points, 11 takedowns, 11 reversals, 18 escapes,
25 near-falls and eight pins. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2005-06, he was 14-14 at 125 lbs. with
67 points, five takedowns, 12 reversals, 20 escapes, 20 near-falls
and four pins on the season. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2004-05, Hanley was 20-12 at 125
lbs. with 95 points, 19 takedowns, 13 reversals, 18 near-falls and
seven pins on the season. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2003-04, he was 15-22 at 125 lbs.
with 66 points, 20 takedowns, 16 reversals, 34 escapes, nine
near-falls and four pins. |
|
|
|
Hanley is a criminal justice major and a 2003
graduate of Wantagh High School. |
|
|
|
Senior Eric Martell (Chepachet, RI) closes out
his career with a 19-38 (.333) record to go along with 87 points, 29
takedowns, eight reversals, 73 escapes and seven pins. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2006-07, he was 4-10 at 174 lbs. with
18 points, five takedowns, three reversals, 14 escapes and one pin. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2005-06, Martell was 6-14 at 197 lbs.
with 24 points, 15 takedowns, four reversals, 21 escapes and two
pins. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2004-05, he was 6-6 at 184 lbs.
with 27 points, five takedowns and two pins. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2003-04, Martell was 3-8 at 184 lbs.
with 18 points, four takedowns, one reversal, 23 escapes and two
pins. |
|
|
|
He is a physical education/health major and a 2003
graduate of Ponaganset High School. |
|
|
|
Senior Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA)
closes out his career with a 79-55 (.590) record to go along with
352 points, 107 takedowns, 69 reversals, 106 escapes, 77 near-falls
and 31 pins. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2006-07, he was an Honorable Mention
to the Pilgrim Wrestling League All-Star Team. Privedenyuk was 26-10
at 165 lbs. to go along with 131 points, 31 takedowns, 11 reversals,
21 escapes, 14 near-falls and 14 pins. He placed sixth at 165 lbs.
at the Roger Williams Invitational and third at 165 lbs. at the
Citrus Invitational. |

|
Privedenyuk missed the 2005-06 season while
recovering from a knee injury. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2004-05, he earned All-New England
honors, placing fifth at 165 lbs. at the NECCWA Championships. He
was 26-15 at 165 lbs. with 115 points, 34 takedowns, 25 reversals,
25 near-falls and 10 pins on the season. He placed third at the
Roger Williams Invitational, fourth at the Doug Parker Invitational
and sixth at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4. |

|
As a sophomore in 2003-04, Privedenyuk was 20-18 at
165 lbs. with 78 points, 33 takedowns, 21 reversals, 34 escapes, 20
near-falls and five pins. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2002-03, he was 7-12 at 157 lbs.
with 28 points, nine takedowns, 12 reversals, 19 escapes, 13
near-falls and two pins on the season. |
|
|
|
He is a physical education/health major and a 2002
graduate of Ludlow High School. |
|
|
|
Junior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) earned
All-American honors, placing sixth, at 141 lbs. at the NCAA Div. III
Wrestling Championships. Bonora was RIC’s first All-American
grappler in 13 years. He was also the New England Champion at 141
lbs., earned All-New England honors and was named the Pilgrim
Wrestling League’s Wrestler of the Year as well as a First Team
All-Star. Bonora was also recognized as an Academic All-American by
NWCA for the second time in his career and was a member of the
Pilgrim League’s Scholar-Athlete Team. |

|
He closed out the season with a 48-6 overall record,
establishing a new RIC record for wins in a season, to go along with
190 points, 170 takedowns, 11 reversals, 58 escapes, 17 near-falls
and seven pins. |
|
|
|
Junior Brendan Casey (Lowell, MA) was named to
the Pilgrim Wrestling League’s Scholar-Athlete Team. He was 20-9 at
174 lbs. with 77 points, 53 takedowns, 12 reversals, 29 escapes,
nine near-falls and two pins. Casey placed fifth at 174 lbs. at the
Doug Parker Invitational. |

|
Junior Kevin Davis (Amston, CT) earned All-New
England honors at 197 lbs., placing fourth at the NECCWA
Championships. He was 20-17 at 184 and 197 lbs. with 80 points, 19
takedowns, eight reversals, 10 escapes, six near-falls and two pins.
Davis placed sixth at 184 lbs. at the R.I.T. Invitational. |

|
Sophomore Steve Goncalves (Cumberland, RI) was
named to the Pilgrim Wrestling League’s Scholar-Athlete Team. He was
14-12 at 125 lbs. with 61 points, 62 takedowns, 13 reversals, 40
escapes, nine near-falls and three pins. |
|
|
|
Sophomore Nick Logan (Lowell, MA) was 20-13 at
184 lbs. with 73 points, 44 takedowns, nine reversals, 26 escapes,
eight near-falls and two pins. He placed fourth at 184 lbs. at the
Roger Williams Invitational and fifth at 184 lbs. at the Doug Parker
Invitational. |

Sophomore Jeff Marra (Danbury, CT) was 6-6 at
157 lbs. with 25 points, 10 takedowns, two reversals, 19 escapes,
eight near-falls and two pins. |
|
|
|
Sophomore Mike Martini (Cranston, RI) earned
All-New England honors at 157 lbs., placing third at the NECCWA
Championships. He was 31-9 at 157 lbs. with 113 points, 42
takedowns, 14 reversals, 42 escapes, 12 near-falls and three pins.
Martini placed fourth at 157 lbs. at the Doug Parker Invitational
and third at 157 lbs. at the R.I.T. Invitational. |

Freshman Bryan Grote (Waterford, CT) was a
reserve on the team. |
|
|
|
Freshman Joe Manley (Wayland, MA) was 0-2 at
174 and 184 lbs. with one takedown, one reversal, two escapes and
one near-fall. |
|
|
|
Freshman Sean Miele (Johnston, RI) was 9-23 at
141 and 149 lbs. with 34 points, 28 takedowns, three reversals, 26
escapes and one near-fall. |
|
|
|
Freshman Nicholas Weyer (Danbury, CT) missed
the season while recovering from a foot injury. |
