2006-07 Women’s Basketball Season Summary

17-11 Overall; 8-6 (third place tie) in the Little East Conference
2007 ECAC N.E. Basketball Tournament Participant

Providence, RI--Head Coach Spencer Manning’s team finished the 2006-07 season with a 17-11 overall record and a 8-6 (third place tie) in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen were the fourth seed in the 2007 Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament and were eliminated in first round action by fifth-seeded Eastern Connecticut, 67-57, on Feb. 20.

Rhode Island College was selected to participate in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Women’s Basketball Tournament for the first time since 1998. The eighth-seeded Anchorwomen came from behind, nailing a three-pointer at the buzzer, to eliminate top-seeded Colby-Sawyer, 46-44, in first round action on Feb. 28. RIC ended its season with a 69-67 loss in overtime to fourth-seeded Wheaton on Mar. 2.

Senior forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) ends her four-year career as an Anchorwoman having played in 103 games, starting 89 of them. She totaled 1,216 points, 1,045 rebounds, 89 assists, 118 steals and 68 blocks during her career. She posted a double-double for her career, averaging 11.8 points and 10.1 rebounds, to go along with a 1.1 steals-per-game average. Geisler is second all-time in career rebounding at RIC, while ranking seventh in scoring. She is one of only two players in school history to accumulate over 1,000 career points and rebounds.

As a senior in 2006-07, Geisler was named Second Team All-Little East Conference. She played in 28 games, starting 26 of them. She averaged 13.0 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game. She led the team in scoring, rebounding and blocks. Geisler scored a season-high 22 points twice, grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds, tying the RIC record for the second-most boards in a game, vs. Mitchell on Jan. 30, tied a career-high with five assists twice and logged a season-high four steals vs. Wellesley on Nov. 28. She attempted a school record 22 free throws against Mitchell on Jan. 30.

As a junior in 2005-06, she was named Second Team All-Little East Conference. Geisler played in 26 games, starting 25 of them. She averaged a team-high 10.6 rebounds per game to go along with 11.2 points, 1.0 steals and 1.0 assists per game. Geisler registered season-highs of 18 points twice, 16 rebounds three times, five assists vs. Southern Maine on Feb. 11, two blocks twice and three steals on several occasions. She was named the Little East Conference's Player of the Week once on the season.

As a sophomore in 2004-05, she was named Second Team All-Little East Conference. Geisler played in 27 games, starting 24 of them. She averaged a team-high 9.3 rebounds per game to go along with 10.4 points, 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks per game. Geisler registered season-highs of 21 points twice, 17 rebounds vs. Western Connecticut on Feb. 15, two assists on several occasions, four steals vs. Roger Williams on Nov. 19 and three blocks vs. UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 18. She was named the Little East Conference's Player of the Week twice.

As a freshman in 2003-04, Geisler was named the Little East Conference's Rookie of the Year and was also a Second Team All-Conference selection. Geisler played in 22 games, starting 14 of them. She led the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. She also averaged 1.3 steals and 0.9 blocks per contest. Geisler registered a career-high 29 points vs. Plymouth State on Dec. 11, a season-high 18 rebounds vs. UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 11, one assist on several occasions, a career-high five steals vs. Connecticut College on Nov. 25 and two blocks on several occasions.

She is a physical education/health major and a 2003 graduate of Pinkerton Academy.

Senior forward Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) closes out her four-year career as an Anchorwoman, having played in a school-record 106 games, starting 68 of them. She totaled 586 points, 558 rebounds, 131 assists, 152 steals and 26 blocks during her career. She averaged 5.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Rosen ranks ninth in career rebounds at RIC.

As a senior in 2006-07, Rosen averaged 4.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. She registered season-highs of 12 points and four assists vs. UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 23, grabbed a season-high 12 boards against Keene State on Jan. 20, and logged a four steals vs. Colby-Sawyer on Feb. 28.

As a junior in 2005-06, she played in 24 games, starting four of them. She averaged 3.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Rosen registered season-highs of 12 points vs. Connecticut College on Dec. 8, nine rebounds vs. Keene State on Jan. 21, three assists twice, three blocks vs. Plymouth State on Dec. 10 and three steals four times.

As a sophomore in 2004-05, Rosen played in 27 games, starting 23 of them. She averaged 7.1 points, was second on the team in rebounding averaging 7.1 per game. She also contributed 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Rosen registered career-highs of 17 points vs. UMass Boston on Jan. 8, 20 rebounds and five steals vs. Westfield State on Dec. 9, and posted a season-high three assists on several occasions and one block three times. Her 20 boards vs. Westfield State were the third-most in a game in RIC women’s hoop history.

As a freshman in 2003-04, she played in 27 games, starting 26 of them. She averaged 6.9 points, was third on the team in rebounding at 6.6 per game and also contributed 1.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Rosen registered season-highs of 14 points vs. UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 11, 15 rebounds vs. UMass Boston on Jan. 10, three assists on three occasions, four steals on several occasions and three blocks vs. Johnson & Wales on Dec. 9.

She is a sociology/criminal justice major and a 2003 graduate of Pinkerton Academy.

Junior guard Sarah Coughlin (North Attleboro, MA) played in 28 games, starting 25 of them. She averaged 5.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Coughlin led the team in assists and steals. She scored a season-high 14 points vs. Wheaton on Mar. 2, grabbed eight rebounds vs. UMass Boston on Jan. 13, dished out 10 assists vs. Connecticut College on Dec. 7 and logged seven steals twice. Her 10 assists ties the RIC record for the sixth-most in a game, while her seven steals ties for the second-most in a contest. Coughlin currently ranks seventh all-time at RIC with 230 career assists. Her 132 assists on the campaign were the second-most in a season in school history.

Junior forward Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, ME) played in 27 games, starting 25 of them. She averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Danieli was second on the team in scoring and rebounding. She scored a season-high 24 points vs. Roger Williams on Nov. 30, grabbed 14 rebounds against Mitchell on Jan. 30, logged five assists vs. Plymouth State on Jan. 27 and registered four steals on two occasions. Danieli is currently tied for fourth all-time at RIC with a .474 career field goal percentage. Danieli’s three-point basket at the buzzer lifted RIC past top-seeded Colby-Sawyer in first round action of the ECAC N.E. Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Junior forward Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) played in 28 games. She averaged 3.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Heard scored a season-high 14 points vs. Connecticut College on Dec. 7, grabbed eight rebounds on three occasions, dished out three assists vs. Keene State on Dec. 2 and registered four steals at Wesleyan on Dec. 12.

Sophomore forward Cassi Malec (Johnston, RI) played in seven games, starting six of them, before a knee injury prematurely ended her season. She averaged 8.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game. She scored a season-high 22 points vs. U.N.E. on Nov. 17, grabbed six rebounds vs. Wellesley on Nov. 28, handed out six assists vs. Roger Williams on Nov. 30 and registered four steals in three contests.

Sophomore guard Tyla Martin (Cumberland, RI) played in 25 games, starting 23 of them. She averaged 8.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. She scored a season-high 22 points and registered six steals vs. UMass Boston on Jan. 23, logged six rebounds at Connecticut College on Dec. 7, dished out four assists vs. Plymouth State on Dec. 9.

Freshman guard Christina Coro (North Providence, RI) played in nine games. She scored a season-high two points vs. Wellesley on Nov. 28 and posted one rebound twice.

Freshman guard Krystal Johnson (Mt. Vernon, NY) played in seven games.

Freshman forward Jen Knott (Narragansett, RI) played in 27 games, starting five of them. She averaged 4.1 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high nine points three times, gathered eight boards vs. Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 3, dished out two assists and logged three steals vs. UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 23. She had nine points, eight boards and two steals in the come-from-behind, 69-63, overtime win vs. Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 3.

Freshman guard Alice Mullen (Saunderstown, RI) played in 28 games, starting four of them. She averaged 4.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. She scored a season-high 16 points and registered five steals in the come-from-behind, 69-63, overtime win vs. Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 3. Mullen also grabbed a season-high five rebounds and dished out four assists vs. Johnson & Wales on Dec. 5. She was named the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week once.

Freshman guard Erica Pisaturo (Greenville, RI) played in 25 games. She averaged 2.0 points per game. Pisaturo scored a season-high 12 points vs. Plymouth State on Dec. 9, grabbed three boards vs. Keene State on Dec. 2, posted four assists against Wesleyan on Dec. 12 and logged two steals twice.

Freshman guard Chrysanthi Stellou (Brockton, MA) played in eight games, starting one of them. She scored a season-high four points to go along with two steals vs. Pine Manor on Jan. 11.

Freshman guard Kirstyn Storti (Exeter, RI) played in 28 games. She averaged 3.7 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. She scored a season-high 17 points vs. Johnson & Wales on Dec. 5, grabbed four rebounds against Western Connecticut on Feb. 6, dished out four assists vs. Wesleyan on Dec. 12 and registered two steals vs. UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 23. She was named the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week once.
