2006-07 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Season Summary

Providence, RI—Head
Coach Kevin Jackson’s team finished the 2006-07 at the
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Div. III
Championships, hosted by Wesleyan on Mar. 2-3. The Anchormen did not
score as a team. |

|
|
Rhode Island College competed at the New England Div. III
Championships, hosted by Bates on Feb. 16-17. The Anchormen tied for
21st place (24 teams) with a team score of 7.0. |
|
|
|
The Anchormen competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships, held at Tufts University on Feb. 10. RIC placed
fourth (10 teams) overall and finished third (five teams) in the
Little East with 59.0 and 73.0 points, respectively. |

|
Senior Eric Estrada (Riverside, RI) placed eighth in the 55
meters with a season-best time of 6.95 and fifth in the 200 meters
with a time of 24.33 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 20. He
placed 16th in the 200 meters with a season-best time of
23.72 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 9. Estrada placed 12th
in the 55 meters with a time of 6.95 and placed seventh in the 200
meters with a time of 24.15 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 2.

He is a health education major and a 2003 graduate of Mt. Pleasant
High School. Estrada attended the Community College of Rhode Island
prior to attending RIC. |

Senior Eric Lonergan (North Kingstown, RI) placed 17th as
part of the 4x800 meter relay team with a time of 8:13.39 at the
ECAC Championships on Mar. 3. Lonergan placed 19th in the
mile with a school-record time of 4:21.90 and 14th as part of the
4x800 meter relay team with a school-record time of 7:56.51 at the
New England Open Championships on Feb. 24. He earned All-New England
honors in the mile, placing seventh with a time of 4:23.22 at the
New England Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. He also placed 11th
in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.71. Lonergan earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events at the Little East
Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. He placed third
in the mile with a time of 4:21.90, third in the 1,000 meters with a
time of 2:34.55 and second as part of the 4x800 meter relay team
with a time of 8:14.67. Lonergan placed fifth in the mile with a
time of 4:22.17 and fifth in the 800 meters with a season-best time
of 1:57.76 at the U.R.I. Mega Meet on Feb. 2. He placed first in the
5,000 meters with a school-record time of 15:57.76 and placed second
in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.89 at the Southern Maine
Invitational on Jan. 27. Lonergan placed second in the 1,000 meters
with a season-best time of 2:37.37 and placed first in the 3,000
meters with a time of 8:58.91 at the Coast Guard Invitational on
Jan. 20. He placed ninth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:40.31
and placed third in the 3,000 meters with a school-record time of
8:46.64 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 13. |

As a junior in 2005-06, he placed sixth in the mile with a time of
4:25.19 at the Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. Lonergan placed 18th
in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:03.48 at the N.E. Div. III
Championships on Feb. 18. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors
in the mile and as part of the 4x800 meter relay team at the
Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He placed seventh in the mile
with a time of 4:38.17 and fifth as part of the 4x800 meter relay
with a time of 8:41.54. He also placed tenth in the 3,000 meters
with a time of 9:42.69. Lonergan placed fifth in the 3,000 meters
with a season-best time of 8:52.47 at the Tufts Invitational on Feb.
4. He placed fifth in the mile and second in the 3,000
meters with times of 4:35.43 and 9:13.94, respectively, at the
Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. Lonergan placed fourth in
the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:36.81 at the Tufts Invitational on
Jan. 21. He placed third in the mile and fifth in the 1,000 meters
with times of 4:32.85 and 2:44.27, respectively, at the Wesleyan
Invitational on Jan. 14. Lonergan placed 12th in the 800
meters with a time of 2:02.74 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec.
10. He placed fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:13.62 at
the Alden Invitational on Dec. 3. |

As a sophomore in 2004-05, Lonergan earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in the 1,000 meters, placing sixth with a time of 2:41.63 at
the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12. Lonergan earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x800 meter relay
team, which placed fifth with a time of 8:53.76. He placed tenth in
the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:39.98 at the Tufts Invitational of
Feb. 5. He placed eighth in the 800 meters and 14th in
the mile with times of 2:07.63 and 4:46.25, respectively, at the
Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. He placed 24th in
the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:39.63 at the Tufts Invitational on
Jan. 22. He placed fifth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:44.68
and seventh in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:19.04 at the
Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 23rd in the
800 meters with a time of 2:03.38 at the Harvard Invitational on

Senior John Martinelli (North Providence, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x400 meter relay
team, which placed seventh with a time of 3:49.66, at the Little
East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. He also
placed 17th in the 400 meters with a season-best time of
54.67 at the same meet. |

As a sophomore in 2004-05, he placed 12th in the 200
meters with a time of 24.83 and eighth in the 400 meters with a time
of 55.72 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 41st
in the 400 meters with a time of 55.14 and 55th in the
200 meters with a time of 24.68 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec.
11. Martinelli placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 55.24
at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4. |

As a freshman in 2003-04, Martinelli earned All-New England honors
in one event at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 21.
Martinelli placed eighth as part of the 4x400 meter relay team with
a school-record time of 3:28.14. He earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in two events at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships on
Feb. 14. He placed eighth in the 400 meters with a season-best time
of 54.26 and first as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of
3:32.97. He also placed 21st in the 55 meters with a season-best
time of 7.12 and 18th in the 200 meters with a season-best time of
24.64. He placed 18th in the 400 meters with a
time of 54.32 at the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 7. He finished 21st
in the 400 meters with a time of 55.51 at the Tufts Invitational on
Jan. 24. He placed 12th in the 200 meters with a time of
25.28 and 12th in the 400 meters with a time of 56.08 at
the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 33rd in
the prelims of the 55 meters with a time of 7.17 at the Yale Classic
on Jan. 10. He placed 16th in the 60 meters with a
school-record time of 7.60 and 16th in the 400 meters
with a time of 54.59 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. |

Senior Dan Newman (Smithfield, RI) was named the team’s MVP.
Newman earned All-New England honors in the high jump, placing fifth
with a leap of 1.87 meters, at the New England Div. III
Championships on Feb. 17. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors
in three events at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on Feb. 10. He placed first in the high jump with a
leap of 1.88 meters, eighth in the 55 meter hurdles with a
season-best time of 9.26 and was seventh as part of the 4x400 meter
relay team with a time of 3:49.66. Newman placed fourth in the high
jump with a season-best jump of 1.90 meters at the U.R.I. Mega Meet
on Feb. 2. He placed first in the high jump with a jump of 1.82
meters and placed fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 11.92
meters at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 27. Newman placed
fourth in the high jump with a jump of 1.85 meters, third in the
high jump with a jump of 1.91 meters and sixth in the triple jump
with a season-best jump of 11.86 meters at the Coast Guard
Invitational on Jan. 20. He placed sixth in the high jump with a
jump of 1.90 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 9. Newman

in the triple jumps with leaps of 1.87 and 11.86 meters,
respectively, at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. Newman
placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.88 meters at the
Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21. He placed second in the high jump and
fifth in the triple jumps with leaps of 1.87 and 11.53 meters,
respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 14. Newman placed

Invitational on Jan. 20. He placed 11th in the 55 meters

All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events. He placed second in
the long jump with a leap of 6.32 meters and was seventh in the high
jump at 1.73 meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on Feb. 10. He placed fourth in the triple jump with a
leap of 12.04 meters and third in the 55 meters with a season-best
time of 6.88 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 27. Willett
placed 10th in 55 meters with a time of 6.98, eighth in
the high jump with a jump of 1.80 meters and also second in the long
jump with a leap of 6.21 meters at the Coast Guard Invitational on
Jan. 20. He placed sixth in the high jump with a jump of 1.76 meters
and seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.16 meters at the Tufts
Invitational on Jan. 13. He placed eighth in the long jump with a
school-record distance of 6.51 meters at the Harvard Invitational on
Dec. 9. Willett placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.93
meters, which tied the school record, and was sixth in the long jump
