SECOND-HALF GOAL SINKS ANCHORMEN
IN SEASON DEBUT

RI—Cabrini
College senior back Joe Blaney
scored the game-winning goal with just under twenty minutes
remaining in the game to lead the Cavaliers’ men’s soccer team to a
1-0 win over Rhode Island College this afternoon at the Roger
Williams Turfer Classic. Cabrini improves to 1-0 with its
season-opening win, while RIC falls to 0-1. |

In the 73rd minute, Cabrini senior midfielder Barry
Magagna deflected sophomore midfielder Evan Hanauer’s
corner kick and Blaney was able to knock the ball into the goal for
the only score of the contest. |

|
Rhode
Island College senior goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Bristol, RI)
mad six saves in a losing effort, while Cabrini sophomore netminder
Bryan Johnson made five stops to earn the shutout victory. |

The
Anchormen outshot Cabrini, 17-12, in the game, but came up short.
Senior midfielder Derek Rocha (Fall River, MA), junior
forward Kyle Genereux (Harrisville, RI) and sophomore
midfielder Jose Talavera (Providence, RI) led RIC with three
shots apiece. |
