KELLEY & STURDAHL COMBINE TO LEAD
RIC PAST HAWKS
Anchormen Earn Second Consecutive Shutout
Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College sophomore midfielder Ryan Kelley (Hope, RI)
headed in a junior defender Bobby Sturdahl (Coventry, RI)
free kick in the 65th minute to lead the Anchormen past
Roger Williams, 1-0, in collegiate soccer action. It was Kelley’s, a
transfer from the University of Maine, first collegiate goal. |
The Anchormen improve to 2-1 overall and notched
their second consecutive shutout. Senior goalkeeper Jadon Neves
(Bristol, RI) made five save to even his record at 1-1. He is
three shutouts away from Frank Kowalik’s ’91 all-time RIC
career mark (18). |
Roger Williams remains winless (0-3)
and has not scored a goal in 270 minutes of action this season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Ruscigno (Wappingers Falls, NY) made
four saves as his record dips to 0-2. |
Sturdahl nearly put RIC on top by two
in the 67th minute, rocketing a shot off the crossbar
from 40 yards out. The Anchormen played stifling defense, allowing
just five shots on net, and have not allowed a goal in the past 198
minutes of action. |
