LITTLE EAST HONORS FUNK & O’CONNELL |

Providence, RI –
Rhode Island College junior Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) was named
the Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and
freshman Liz O’Connell (Harrisville, RI) was named the Rookie
of the Week for their performances in the Anchorwomen’s opener on
Sept. 6. |

Funk downed
Kaitlin Ross from Curry in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) at No. 1
singles, then teamed with senior Sasha Doonan Rodriguez
(Pawtucket, RI) to win a No. 2 doubles (8-1). |

|
|
O’Connell
downed the Colonels’ Melinda Wong in straight sets (6-2, 6-0)
to win her first collegiate match at No. 3 singles. She teamed with
sophomore Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) to win at No. 2
doubles (8-3). |

|
|
Rhode Island
College opened the 2007 season with a 9-0 win over Curry College on
Sept. 6. The Anchorwomen (1-0) have won 14 consecutive matches
dating back to last season and 25 of their last 26 contests. In
upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Emmanuel on Tuesday
Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. |
