KELLEY’S OVERTIME GOAL WINS IT FOR
RIC

Providence, RI—Sophomore
midfielder Ryan Kelley (Hope, RI) scored a pair of goals,
including the game-winner in overtime, to give Rhode Island College
a 2-1 victory against Johnson & Wales in a non-conference contest at
Pierce Stadium on Thursday afternoon. |

Senior
Joel Reynolds (Middletown, PA) put Johnson & Wales on the board
early when he blasted in a shot from five yards out, giving the
Wildcats the 1-0 advantage just 5:01 into the contest. Senior
Brian Sousa (Providence, RI) and sophomore Eric Flath
(Warwick, RI) each had an assist on the goal. |

Rhode Island
College responded at the 37:00 mark when Kelley knotted the game at
1-1 on a free kick from 30 yards out. The game was tied 1-1 at
halftime and the two teams battled through a scoreless second half
to finish regulation knotted 1-1. Midway through the first overtime
period, RIC was awarded a free kick that was taken by junior
defender Josh Silva (Dartmouth, MA). Silva lofted a ball
into the box where Kelley headed it in for the game-winner at 98:45. |

Sophomore
goalkeeper Chris Vasquez (Nashua, NH) made seven saves for
Johnson & Wales, while RIC’s Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) had
eight saves in the win. |

With the
loss, Johnson & Wales is now 1-2-1 for the year, while Rhode Island
College improves to 3-3 on the season. The Wildcats will return to
action on Monday, Sept. 17 when they host Framingham State in a
non-conference contest at 4 p.m. The Anchormen open the 2007 Little
East Conference circuit when they host UMass Boston on Saturday,
Sept. 15 at noon. |
