East Play With Victory

Boston,
MA—Senior
forward Lindsay Laurie (Warwick, RI) scored two goals,
including the game-winner, to lead the Rhode Island College women’s
soccer team past UMass Boston, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon. The
Anchorwomen even their record at 2-2-1 overall, hile raising their
Little East Conference mark to 1-0. The Beacons fall to 2-4 overall
and 0-1 in the LEC. |

Rhode Island
College got on the board in the 16th minute as senior
forward Brittney Godbout (Cranston, RI) scored her first goal
of the season by knocking in her own rebound. Laurie took a cross
pass from senior midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI) to
score the decisive marker in the 17th minute. RIC went
into half-time with a 2-0 advantage. Junior goalkeeper Krissie
Pyzynski (Bristol, CT) did not have to make a save in 45 minutes
of action to earn her second win (2-1-1) of the season. |

Pyzynski gave
way to freshman Maddie Pirri (Bristol, RI) who played the
remainder of the game. Senior forward Jessica Cardinal
(Harrisville, RI) was set up for her second goal of the season
by classmate Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) in the 65th
minute. Laurie put the icing on the proverbial cake in the 70th
minute with her second tally. |

The Beacons
spoiled the shutout bid as Katherine Wall scored with under
eight minutes left in regulation. Courtney Haroules played
just over 70 minutes in net, making nine saves, while allowing three
goals. She gave way to Ashley McRoberts who allowed Laurie’s
team-leading third goal of the season. McRoberts made four stops in
19:20 of action. |

The
Anchorwomen carried the play offensively, outshooting UMB, 26-5. |
|
|
|
In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will host Salve Regina on Thursday,
Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. The Beacons will play at Worcester State on
Thursday, Sept. 20. |
