ANCHORMEN BLANK BEARS, 2-0
Nigrelli Nets Game Winner
|
|
Providence, RI—The
Rhode Island College men’s soccer team defeated Bridgewater State
College, 2-0, this afternoon at the Rhode Island College Soccer
Field. Senior midfielder James Nigrelli (Ashaway, RI)
registered the decisive goal as the Anchormen raise their overall
record to 5-3. |
|
|
|
Rhode Island
College cracked the scoring column in the 37th minute, when Nigrelli
headed in a corner kick from senior midfielder Derek Rocha (Fall
River, MA). It was Nigrelli’s first marker of the campaign,
while Rocha handed out his first helper. Despite holding an 11-2
advantage in shots, the Anchormen headed into the intermission with
just a one-goal lead. |
|
|
|
That would be
all Rhode Island College would need as the Anchormen limited
Bridgewater State (1-4-1) to just 11 shots on the afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dereck Loisel (Warwick, RI) made seven
saves to earn his second shutout and third victory of the season.

In the 53rd
minute, Rhode Island College added an insurance goal, when sophomore
midfielder Ryan Kelley (Hope, RI) converted off a crossing
pass from freshman Miguel Sagastume (Providence, RI). Kelley
recorded his team-leading fifth marker of the season, including his
fourth tally in the past three matches. Sagastume was credited with
his second assist on the campaign. |

|
|
Between the
pipes for the Bears, senior goalkeeper Drew Pontbriand
(Fairhaven, MA) turned back five Anchormen offerings as his
record slips to 1-3. |

Rhode Island
