Season-High Marks in Goals & Shots

Providence, RI—Senior
forwards Jessica Cardinal (Harrisville, RI) and Brittney
Godbout (Cranston, RI) registered four points apiece as the
Rhode Island College women’s soccer team defeated Salve Regina, 5-1,
at the RIC Soccer Field. The Anchorwomen improve to 3-2-1 overall,
while the Seahawks fall to 2-5. |

Rhode Island
College set the tone early as Cardinal’s shot went threw the legs of
SRU sophomore goalkeeper Katie Vaudrain (Pawtucket, RI) just
1:40 into the game. Senior forwards Lindsay Laurie (Warwick, RI)
and Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) put the Anchorwomen in the
proverbial driver’s seat with tallies in the 11th and 30th
minute as RIC took a 3-0 lead into intermission. |

RIC junior
goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol, CT) played the first
half, making one save, before giving way to freshman Kelly Young
(Narragansett, RI). The Anchorwomen stepped on the gas in the
second half as Cardinal scored her second marker of the game just 25
seconds into the stanza. Godbout, who along with Cardinal, paced the
attack with seven shots apiece, fired home the club’s fifth goal in
the 62nd minute. |

Salve Regina
ended RIC’s bid for its first shutout this fall as senior midfielder
Kacie Gallo (Methuen, MA) scored off a free kick in the 76th
minute. The Anchorwomen registered a season-high 38 shots and five
goals in the win. Laurie contributed an assist for three points,
while freshman midfielder Chelsea Creamer (Coventry, RI)
notched two helpers. |

Pyzynski
upped her record to 3-1-1, while Vaudrain, who made 14 saves, sees
her personal mark fall to 2-5. |
|
|
|
In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will resume the Little East Conference
schedule when RIC travels to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Sept. 22.
The Seahawks will continue Commonwealth Coast Conference action when
they travel to Nichols on Saturday, Sept. 22. |
