ANCHORMEN FALL TO COLONIALS, 1-0
RIC Suffers Third Shutout Loss & Falls to 1-1-1 in LEC Play

CT—Rhode
Island College was shut out, 1-0, by Western Connecticut in a battle
of Little East Conference men’s soccer rivals on Saturday evening.
The Anchormen, who suffer their third loss via shutout, fall to
5-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the Little East. The Colonials even their
record at 5-5, while picking up their first LEC victory of the
season. |

WestConn sophomore midfielder Shane Edgely
(Oakdale, CT) scored his sixth goal of the season off a free
kick in the 31st minute to propel the Colonials to
victory. RIC outshot Western Connecticut, 23-11. Tony Belanger
(Thomaston, CT), in his second collegiate start in goal, made
seven saves and registered his first collegiate shutout for the
Colonials. Freshmen backs Dennis Poulter (Waterbury, CT) and
Luis Duque (Naugatuck, CT) cleared two Anchormen shots off the
goal line to preserve the shutout for WestConn. |

Rhode Island
College senior goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) made five
saves in a losing effort. |

In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will have the week to prepare for
Little East Conference rival Keene State, as the Anchormen will host
the Owls on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. WestConn will play at
Worcester State on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. |
