ANCHORWOMEN UP LEAGUE MARK TO 2-1
Georges, Garcia & Heidel Pace RIC Win Over Corsairs

The Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team upped its Little
East Conference record to 2-1 and 11-9 overall in a 3-0 win over
UMass Dartmouth Tuesday night at The Murray Center. The Corsairs,
who lost their 10th consecutive match and 10th
via shutout, fall to 3-13 overall and 0-3 in league play. |

The
Anchorwomen, who notched their eighth shutout victory of the season,
were led offensively by sophomore outside hitter Desiree Georges
(Woonsocket, RI), senior middle blocker Kimiyo Garcia
(Riverside, RI) and freshman hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI).
Georges led the squad with 12 kills, while Garcia was one off the
pace. Heidel, who logged 10 kills, along with Georges, came up with
some key points during the match. |

RIC dominated
games one and two, posting, 30-18 and 30-23, wins before the
Corsairs battled back in game three. The Anchorwomen outlasted UMD,
30-27, to take the game and the match. Sophomore outside hitter
Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) led the team with 10 digs, while
freshman setter Nicole Enos (Coventry, RI) handed out a
team-best 21 assists. |

Senior
outside hitter Nazareth Cardoso (Brockton, MA) led UMass
Dartmouth with eight kills and six digs, while junior setter
Mellanie Staiger (Bourne, MA) posted 20 assists. |

|
|
In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will host Clark and Eastern Nazarene on
Saturday, Oct. 6, while the Corsairs will compete with Worcester
State at Wentworth on the same date. |
