SALEM, MA
—Freshman
midfielder Chelsea Creamer (Coventry, RI) scored a
season-high four points, including her first collegiate goal, to
pace the Rhode Island College attack as the Anchorwomen overpowered
Salem State College, 4-0, in non-conference women’s soccer action
this afternoon at Alumni Field. Senior midfielder Abby Hummel
(North Kingstown, RI) netted her second straight game-winning
goal as the visitors raise their overall record to 9-7-1, while the
Vikings slip to 7-7-2. |

Rhode Island
College was economical with its shots, scoring on four of the six
attempts placed on net. The Anchorwomen cracked the scoring column
in the 23rd minute, when Hummel recorded an unassisted goal to give
the visitors the early advantage. Rhode Island College struck again
three minutes later, when classmate Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI)
accepted a feed from Creamer and deposited it in the back of the
net—her third marker of the campaign. The Anchorwomen entered the
intermission leading 2-0. |

|
|
The visitors
continued to control the pace of the match in the second half.
Senior forward Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) and Creamer each
added an insurance goal to extend Rhode Island College’s winning
streak to season-high four games. Freshman forward Sadhana Yoder
(North Attleboro, MA) earned her first collegiate point,
assisting on Calenda’s fourth goal of the season.

Freshman
goalkeeper Maddie Pirri (Bristol, RI) backstopped the
Anchorwomen to her fourth shutout victory of the campaign, making
six saves. Pirri has held the opposition scoreless in the past four
matches, a streak which spans 378:57. She was also named the ECAC
New England Defensive Player of the Week this morning by the
conference office. |
|
|
|
On the other
side of the pitch, senior netminder Abby DeAngelo (Lowell, MA)
collected two saves in her final home regular season game.

|
|
|
Rhode Island
College returns to action on Oct. 27, when the Anchorwomen travel to
Little East Conference rival Southern Maine (6-10, 2-4 LEC) at 1
p.m. If Rhode Island College defeats the Huskies, they will clinch
the second seed in the Little East Conference Women's Soccer
Tournament, receiving a bye and a home-field advantage in the
semifinal round. |
