Rhode Island College Announces
2007 Fall Sports MVPs
|
|
|
|
|
|
Providence, RI--
The Rhode Island College Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation held its annual Fall Banquet
at RIC’s Donovan Dining Center on Monday, Nov. 5 to honor those
student-athletes who participate in varsity fall athletics. Each
sport gave out their Most Valuable Player Award. |

Men’s Soccer
|
|
Sophomore
midfielder Ryan Kelley (Hope, RI) was named the men’s soccer
team’s MVP. He
played in 19 games, starting 18 of them. Kelley led the team with
seven goals and 15 points to go along with one assist. He registered
two game-winning goals on the season. During the season, Kelley was
named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week once,
selected to D3Kicks.com’s Div. III Team of the Week and was a member
of the Turfer Classic’s All-Tournament Team. |

He is a physical education major and a 2005 graduate
of La Salle Academy. |

Women’s Soccer
|
|
Senior
defender Kerry Donahue (Rehoboth, MA) was named the women’s
soccer team’s MVP. She played in 20 games, starting all of them.
Donahue logged three goals and one assist for seven points on the
season. She helped the Anchorwomen record four shutouts and post a
1.69 goals-against average. |

She is an early childhood education major with a
concentration in special education and a 2004 graduate of
Dighton-Rehoboth High School. |

Women’s Tennis
|
|
Senior Sasha Doonan Rodriguez (Pawtucket, RI)
was named the women’s tennis team’s MVP. She teamed with junior
Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) to win the Little East Championship at
No. 1 doubles for the second consecutive season. She was 10-6 (.625)
at No. 2 singles and 14-3 (.824) at No. 1 doubles for 17.0 points on
the season. |

She is a nursing/psychology major and a 1996 graduate
of Woonsocket High School. |

Women’s Volleyball
|
|
Senior middle blocker Kimiyo Garcia (Riverside,
RI) was named the women’s volleyball team’s MVP. She played in
113 games in 32 matches, totaling 465 kills (4.12/game), a .302
hitting percentage, 61 service aces (.54/game), 305 digs (2.7/game)
and 127 blocks (1.12/game). She led the team in kills, hitting
percentage, service aces and blocks. She was twice named the Little
East Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, the
Defensive Player of the Week once and was selected to the Brandeis Invitational’s All-Tournament Team. |

She is a nursing major and a 2003 graduate of East
Providence High School. |

Men’s Cross Country
|
|
Junior
Greg Ahnrud (Chepachet, RI) was named the men’s cross country
team’s MVP. He
placed 61st with a time of 28:07 at the ECAC Championships on Nov.
3. Ahnrud placed 56th with a time of 28:15 at the Little East/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He placed third with a time of
29:22 at the Eastern Connecticut tri-meet on Oct. 13. Ahnrud placed
eighth overall with a time of 29:29 at the Roger Williams
Invitational on Oct. 6. He led Rhode Island College, placing 16th
overall with a time of 28:41 at the Tri-State Invitational on Sept.
29. Ahnrud led the Anchormen, placing seventh overall with a time of
31:42 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 22. He placed 89th with
a time of 27:40 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15. |

He is a history and political science major and a
2004 graduate of Ponaganset High School. |

Women’s Cross Country
|
|
Freshman
Kathryn Cote (Greenville, RI) was named the women’s cross
country team’s MVP. She
was RIC’s top runner, placing 27th (125 runners) with
a time of 20:58 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on
Oct. 27. Cote placed fifth with a time of 21:56 at the Eastern
Connecticut tri-meet on Oct. 13. She was RIC’s top runner, placing
17th with a time of 22:25 at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct.
6. Cote was RIC’s top runner, placing 10th with a time of 22:13 at
the Tri-State Invitational on Sept. 29. She placed 17th with a time
of 22:29 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 22. Cote placed 64th
with a time of 22:01 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept.
