Kimiyo Garcia Named Little East Conference

Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Year

 

 

 

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior middle blocker Kimiyo Garcia (Riverside, RI) was named the Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Little East accolades as well.

 

 

 

Garcia is the first RIC women’s volleyball player to earn the Offensive Player of the Year Award. She was also named the women’s volleyball team’s MVP. Garcia played in 114 games in 32 matches, totaling 465 kills (4.12/game), a .302 hitting percentage, 61 service aces (.54/game), 305 digs (2.7/game) and 127 blocks (1.12/game). She led the team in kills, hitting percentage, service aces and blocks. Garcia was twice named the Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, the Defensive Player of the Week once and was selected to the Brandeis Invitational’s All-Tournament Team.

 

She is a nursing major and a 2003 graduate of East Providence High School.

 

Head Coach Luis Carvalho’s team finished the regular season with a 15-17 overall record and a 2-4 (fourth place tie) record in the Little East Conference.
