The first four batters in the Rhode Island College
lineup each recorded two hits, while the fifth and sixth hitters in
the order cracked the scoring column with a base knock each. Junior
right fielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, R.I.) turned
in a 2-for-3 performance from the plate with two RBI, while freshman
catcher Franklin Salcedo (Providence, R.I.) went 2-for-4 with
two runs batted in. Junior third baseman Jeff Costa (Pawtucket,
R.I.) went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. |

Rhode Island College (3-0) used a two-out rally in the
first inning to jump out to an early advantage. Cardoso started the
surge with a single through the left side of the infield. O’Connors
drove in Cardoso with a double to left centerfield to give the
Anchormen a lead they would never relinquish. |

The visitors strung together five hits and four runs in
the bottom of the third inning to increase their advantage to 5-0.
Cardoso and O’Connors laced back-to-back doubles to start the
scoring, while sophomore Tim Schabowski (Pascoag, R.I.) and
classmate left fielder Jared Rossi (Johnston, R.I.) also
logged RBI-hits. |

The Anchormen continued to apply the offensive
pressure, scoring at least two runs in the next three innings. Rhode
Island College pushed across six insurance runs in the bottom of the
sixth to seal its third consecutive victory. |
