Anchormen
raise winning streak to FIVE |

SAINT LEO, Fla. –The
Rhode Island College baseball team won its fifth consecutive game
this afternoon, handing Mount Union College its first loss of the
campaign, 17-5, at Saint Leo University. Junior centerfielder B.J.
Doyon (Douglas, Mass.) led the 18-hit assault with a 3-for-5
showing from the dish and a game-high five RBI. |

Rhode Island College (5-0) reached double digits in the
scoring column for the fourth straight game, putting a season-high
17 runs on the board. Senior second baseman Peter Olson (North
Providence, R.I.) and sophomore third baseman Brian Colombero
(Skillman, N.J.) joined Doyon with three hits apiece, while
junior leftfielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, R.I.)
and classmate catcher Jordan Amorin (Swansea, Mass.) each
chipped in with two hits. Colombero belted his first home run of the
season, stroking a second inning curveball over the rightfield fence
for a two-run blast. |

The Anchormen scored at least three runs in the first
five innings to jump out to a commanding, 16-3, advantage. The
Purple Raiders (2-1) aided Rhode Island College with a pair of
defensive miscues in the first frame, allowing the Anchormen to take
a lead they would never relinquish. |

Junior Bobby Fournier (Dartmouth, Mass.) gave
Rhode Island College its fifth consecutive strong outing from the
pitching corps. Fournier tossed 5.2 innings, surrendering three runs
on eight hits, while striking out three. Sophomore pitcher
Michael Boucher (Woonsocket, R.I.) pitched effectively in
relief, striking out one and not allowing a hit or run over the
final 1.1 innings. |

twinbill at 2:45 p.m. this afternoon. |
