Tritons surge past Anchormen, 11-3
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Rhode Island College
could not overcome an eight-run, fourth inning outburst against
Division II Eckerd College this evening at the Turley Athletic
Complex, falling to the Tritons, 11-3. The Anchormen suffer their
third consecutive loss and slip to 5-3 on the campaign. |
Eckerd College (9-15) jumped out to a one-run advantage in the
bottom of the first inning. Sophomore second baseman Matt Abraham
(Worcester, Mass.) led off with a triple to rightfield, and
freshman leftfielder Chris Clinton (Seminole, Fla.) followed
suit with a sacrifice fly to center field. Rhode Island College
senior starting pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, Mass.)
settled into a groove over the next two innings, allowing just a
lone hit. |
The
Anchormen drew even in the fourth stanza as junior third baseman
Jeff Costa (Pawtucket, R.I.) led off with a double down the
right field line. Classmate shortstop Josh Cardoso (Dartmouth,
Mass.) plated Costa with a single up the middle. Rhode Island
College would not get any closer as the Tritons scored eight runs in
the bottom half of the inning. |
Junior catcher Jordan Amorin (Swansea, Mass.) paced the Rhode
Island College attack, registering three hits in this four plate
appearances. Cardoso went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while junior
designated hitter Bryan Colombero (Skillman, N.J.) chipped in
