a doubleheader sweep at Wheaton on Thursday afternoon. |

Sophomore pinch hitter Cassandra Taverna (Bedford, MA) belted
a one-out, two-run double to give the Anchorwomen a 3-1 advantage in
the top of the eighth inning in game one. The Lyons came back to
pull within one run in the home half of the frame, but freshman
pitcher Melanie Neece (Westfield, MA) closed the door for her
sixth (6-1) win of the season. RIC had jumped out a 1-0 lead in the
top of the fourth on freshman right fielder Amanda Perry’s (New
Bedford, MA) solo home run (2). Wheaton tied the game up in the
bottom of the sixth on Brady Benton’s solo blast. |
