RIC Stays Unbeaten in
Little East Play

Providence, RI— Senior right-hander
Evan Grogan (East Lyme, CT) and junior closer Eric Fama
(Wappingers Falls, NY) combined for a two-hit shutout as
visiting Rhode Island College defeated the University of
Massachusetts Dartmouth’s baseball team, 2-0, in a Little East
Conference game at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Thursday
afternoon. |

Junior right
fielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI) singled home
junior third baseman Jeff Costa (Pawtucket, RI) in the third
to give the Anchormen a 1-0 lead. Sophomore left fielder Jared
Rossi (Johnston, RI) homered in the fourth for the game’s other
run. Neither Grogan nor Fama walked a batter in the contest. UMD
freshman right-hander Chris Contre (East Bridgewater, MA)
allowed both runs in 7.1 innings and took the loss, falling to 0-4.
Freshman right-hander Kyle Merrill (Dennis, MA) finished up.
Grogan earned the victory and improved to 2-0, while Fama earned his
third save of the season. |

The Corsairs
dropped to 1-16 and 0-3 in the Little East Conference with the
defeat, while RIC improved to 12-5 and 3-0 with the victory. UMass
Dartmouth will return to action when they host Plymouth State in a
Little East Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon, while the
Anchormen will host Southern Maine in a twinbill Saturday. |
