MELANIE NEECE NAMED LITTLE EAST
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Island College freshman pitcher Melanie Neece (Westfield, MA)
was named the Little East Conference Softball Rookie of the Week for
her performance in two games last week. |
|
|
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
In two appearances, Neece led the Anchorwomen to a
2-0 mark and extended their consecutive win streak to 11 games. She
recorded a complete game shutout, 4-0, against Bridgewater State on
Apr. 1, throwing seven scoreless innings and scattering three hits.
She came in relief in the nightcap against the Bears to pick up the
victory, 5-4, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out six
as the Anchorwomen earned a come-from-behind win. |

|
On the season, she has appeared in 14 games, starting
eight of them. Neece is 9-1 with a 1.92 earned run average and 50
strikeouts in 62 innings of work. |
|
|
|
Head Coach Maria Morin’s team is currently
16-4 overall and 2-0 in the Little East Conference. In upcoming
action, RIC will play at Roger Williams on Thursday, Apr. 10. |
