RIC (21-9,
7-3) scored three runs in the top of the eighth to pull within one
run, 6-5, in the first game, but the Warriors (19-10-1, 6-3) added
two more in the bottom of the frame to seal the victory. Freshman
pitcher Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI) took the loss
(1-2), surrendering six runs on seven hits, while striking out two,
in 5.1 innings. Junior catcher Jordan Amorin (Swansea, MA)
went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI on his first home run
(1) of the season. Senior first baseman Jim Connell (Smithfield,
RI) went 2-for-4 with one run scored. Eastern Connecticut
right-hander junior Jimmy Jagodzinski (Greenwich, CT) won his
sixth game (6-2) in eight decisions by pitching into the eighth
inning. He fanned eight without a walk and gave up nine hits.
Sophomore righty Chris Wojick (Uncasville, CT) gained his
fourth save in his staff-leading 15th appearance in

In game two, the Warriors jumped
out to a 3-0 lead off RIC senior starting pitcher Eric Thibault
(Somerset, MA) in the bottom of the first inning and never
looked back. A seven-run fourth inning for ECSU put the game out of
reach. Thibault (2-1) took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits,
while striking out two, in three innings. Senior second baseman
Pete Olson (North Providence, RI) went 3-for-4 with one run
scored and one RBI. Eastern Connecticut sophomore starting pitcher
earned his third win (3-1), allowing four runs on eight hits, while
reaching double digits in strikeouts with 11, over six innings. |
