IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
Anchormen to Face Southern
Maine in LEC Tournament

Rindge, NH—Keene State
College captured the 2008 Little East Conference Baseball Regular
Season Championship and will host the upcoming tournament May 7-10
by taking a doubleheader from Rhode Island College on Sunday evening
at Pappas Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce. The game was moved
from Keene State due to unplayable field conditions. |

The Anchormen
(24-13, 8-6) are the fourth seed and will face third-seeded
Southern Maine at Keene State in first round action of the Little
East Tournament on Wednesday, May 7. |

|
Rhode Island College fell behind,
4-0, after two innings and never recovered as the Owls (28-8, 12-2)
went on to win game one, 9-4. Freshman Gary Levesque (East
Providence, RI) suffered the loss (1-4), allowing six runs, only
three of which were earned, in 3.1 innings of work. Sophomore
Paul Vatter (Warwick, RI) and junior Bobby Fournier
(Dartmouth, MA) combined to allow three runs on three hits and
five walks over the final 4.2. The Anchormen made three errors in
the game. Junior third baseman Jeff Costa (Pawtucket, RI)
went 2-for-5 with one run scored, two RBI and a home run (2). Junior
catcher Jordan Amorin (Swansea, MA) went 2-for-4 with one run
scored, one RBI and a double. |

Keene State ended the nightcap in
just seven innings, via the 10-run rule, in a 19-7 victory. Senior
Evan Grogan (East Lyme, CT) took the loss (4-2), allowing
seven runs, only four of which were earned, on five hits in 1.2
innings. Five Anchormen errors contributed to the loss. Junior third
baseman Bryan Colombero (Skillman, NJ) went 2-for-4 with one
run scored and one RBI, while classmate right fielder Chris
O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI) went 1-for-4 with one run
scored, two RBI and a homer (2). |
