Rhode Island College Wrestling Takes Top Spot
at Doug Parker Invitational
Bonora Wins at 141 lbs.; Seven Others Place

Springfield, MA—No. 28 Rhode Island College continued its winning ways by placing first (18 teams) at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College on Saturday, Nov. 17. The Anchormen totaled 142.50 points, 29.50 points better than second-place U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (133.0).

Senior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) won at 141 lbs., going 5-0 with two pins. He is currently the No. 1-ranked grappler in his weight class in the nation and New England, posting an undefeated 10-0 record with 44 takedowns, four reversals, 11 near-falls and three pins on the season.

Senior Brendan Casey (Lowell, MA) placed third at 174 lbs., going 5-1 with two pins. Casey, the No. 4-ranked wrestler in New England, is currently 10-3 with 31 takedowns, one reversal and two pins.

Freshman Travis Drappi (West Orange, NJ) placed third at 133 lbs., going 4-1. Drappi, the No. 3-ranked wrestler in New England, is 9-2 with 11 takedowns, two reversals, five near-falls and two pins.

Junior Nick Logan (Lowell, MA) placed third at 184 lbs., going 6-1 with four pins. The No. 5-ranked wrestler in New England, is 10-4 with 24 takedowns, one reversal, seven near-falls and five pins.

Senior Kevin Davis (Amston, CT) placed fourth at 197 lbs., going 3-2 with one pin. Davis, the No. 1-ranked wrestler in New England, is 8-2 overall with 10 takedowns, six reversals, five near-falls and two pins.

Sophomore Mike Martini (Cranston, RI) placed fourth at 157 lbs., going 5-2 with two pins. Martini, the No.4-ranked wrestler in New England, is 10-4 with 14 takedowns, six reversals, two near-falls and five pins.

Sophomore Joe Manley (Wayland, MA) placed fifth at 174 lbs., going 5-2 with three pins. He is 7-4 with nine takedowns, two reversals, seven near-falls and five pins.

Freshman Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) placed fifth at 149 lbs., going 4-2 with one pin. Sutherland, the No.1-ranked wrestler in New England, is 10-2 with 15 takedowns, three reversals, seven near-falls and two pins.

Head Coach Jay Jones team is 1-0 overall, 1-0 in the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) and 1-0 in the Pilgrim Wrestling League. The Anchormen are off for the Thanksgiving Day holiday and will resume action at their home opener vs. Plymouth State on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m.
