Rhode
Island College Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Opens ’07-08
Campaign
at Husky Winter Carnival |

Boston,
MA—The
Rhode Island College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams
opened the 2007-08 season at the Husky Winter Carnival, hosted by
Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday
afternoon. It was an individual meet with no team scoring as the
Anchormen and Anchorwomen competed against several Div. I, II and
III institutions from around the area. |

Senior
Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) placed fifth in the 800 meters with
a time of 1:59.88. Sophomore Max Willett (Portsmouth, RI)
placed fifth in the high jump with a 1.87-meter effort. Junior
Dante Lopardo (Johnston, RI) tied for eighth in the high jump at
1.82 meters. Junior Greg Ahnrud (Chepachet, RI) rounded out
the RIC leaders with a 16th-place finish in the mile with
a time of 4:32.39. |

For the
women, junior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) placed 20th
in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.58. She also tied for 20th
in the high jump at 1.47 meters. Junior Mary Ellen Horsman
(Barrington, RI) tied for 18th in the hammer with a
10.38-meter effort. |

action, Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s teams will compete at the
Harvard Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 8. |
