Anchorwomen Suffer Second Straight Loss |

Providence, RI—Wesleyan University junior guard Ali
Fourney (East Northport, NY) and senior forward Lucy Sprung
(Wilmington, VT) scored 24 and 20 points, respectively, to lead
the Cardinals past Rhode Island College, 68-50, on Tuesday night at
The Murray Center. |

The Cardinals
win for the fifth time in their last six contests and improve to 6-2
on the season. RIC loses back-to-back games and suffers its first
home loss for the first time this season, as the Anchorwomen dip to
5-4. |
|
|
|
Rebounding
was a key focus for the Anchorwomen coming into the game, but the
Cardinals dominated the glass on both ends of the floor. Wesleyan
outrebounded RIC by 18, 44-26, overall, and posted and 21-9
advantage on the offensive end. |
|
|
|
Wesleyan
built a 15-point advantage, 25-10, with 8:58 left in the first
stanza. The Anchorwomen closed the gap to seven points on two
occasions as the club’s went into halftime with the Cardinals
leading, 35-28. |

|
|
Rhode Island
College chipped away at a double-digit deficit in the second stanza,
cutting the Wesleyan lead back down to eight, 45-37, on a junior
guard Michelle McNamee (Cranston, RI) free throw with 12:03
left in the game. The Cardinals promptly put five quick points back
on the board, capped by a Sprung layup with 11:07 left. |

Wesleyan held
off RIC for the remainder of the contest and built a game-high
18-point lead on a senior guard Stephanie Savas (Brockton, MA)
three, 68-50, with 11 seconds left. |

|
|
Sprung posted
a double-double with 20 points, 15 boards, 10 of which were
offensive, to go along with five blocks and four assists. She shot
7-for-12 from the field. Fourney shot 10-for-15 from the floor to
net a game-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, six
steals and three assists. Savas rounded out the WU contingent in
double-figures with a 12-point effort. Junior forward Meredith
Lowe (Philadelphia, PA) was a consistent threat around the ball
on both ends of the floor, contributing eight points, nine rebounds
and two steals. |

Rhode Island
College sophomore guard Alice Mullen (Saunderstown, RI) led
RIC with 13 points, while junior guard Tyla Martin (Cumberland,
RI) chipped in with 12. |

Wesleyan wins
for the 10th consecutive time vs. the Anchorwomen. |

In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will play at Westfield State on
Saturday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. Wesleyan will play at Montclair on
Saturday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. |
