ANCHORMEN WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT; DOWN BANTAMS, 70-68

Hartford, Conn.—Freshman guard Anthony Fortes’ (East
Providence, RI) free throw with eight seconds left helped No. 25
Rhode Island College outlast Trinity, 70-68, in a non-conference
tilt on Tuesday night. The Anchormen win for the fifth consecutive
game and up their record to 8-1. Trinity loses for the second
straight game, falling to 6-2, after winning their first six
contests of the season. |

The Bantams
had several opportunities to tie or win the game in the final
seconds, but missed a three-pointer and two follow-up shots as time
expired. |
|
|
|
RIC junior
guard Tirrell Hill (Bronx, NY) led three Anchormen in double
figures with a team-high 12 points. Hill shot 4-for-12 from the
field, but each of his field goals were three-pointers (4-for-8). He
also grabbed five boards, dished out three assists and made one
steal. |

|
Junior guards
Cameron Stewart (Newport, RI) and Bobby Bailey (Fall
River, MA) netted 11 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman
forward Darius Debnam (Dorchester, MA) chipped in with six
points and a career-high eight rebounds. |

|
The Bantams
had four players reach double figures in scoring, led by senior
center Russ Martin’s (East Longmeadow, MA) game-high 18
points and nine rebounds. Senior forward Robert Taylor (Boston,
MA) logged 15 points and seven boards, while junior forward
Aaron Westbrooks (Dublin, Ireland) contributed 10 points, seven
boards and four assists. |

Springfield on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. |
