ANCHORWOMEN SNAP THREE-GAME LOSING STREAK

Providence, RI—The
Rhode Island College women’s basketball
team snapped a three-game conference losing streak, defeating UMass
Dartmouth, 70-60, to improve to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the Little
East Conference Tuesday night at The Murray Center.

Dartmouth suffers its 11th straight loss, falling to 3-13
overall and remains winless in the Little East with a 0-6 mark. |

|
The Corsairs
jumped out to an early lead, scoring the game’s first eight points,
with 17:19 left in the first half. Rhode Island College sophomore
guard Alice Mullen (Saunderstown, RI) connected on a
three-pointer and a jumper as the Anchorwomen stormed back to take a
9-8 lead with 13:28 left. UMass Dartmouth opened up a game-high
six-point lead, 20-14, on a layup by sophomore center Megan
McDonnell (Swansea, MA) at the 9:30 mark. RIC outscored UMD,
24-17, to take a 44-31 lead into halftime. |

UMass
Dartmouth whittled down the RIC lead to six points, 48-42, on a
senior guard Ashley Chard (Burlington, CT) layup and free
throw with 14:46 left in the game, but would get no closer. Rhode
Island College led by as many as 15, and closed out the game with a
10-point victory. |

|
RIC sophomore
forward Jenn Knott (Narragansett, RI) led all scorers with a
17-point effort to go along with four rebounds two assists and two
steals. Senior point guard Sarah Coughlin (North Attleboro, MA)
posted 15 points, a game-high six assists and four rebounds.
Senior forward Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) and Mullen rounded
out the RIC contingent in double figures withh 13 and 10 points,
respectively. |

In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will play at UMass Boston, while UMass
Dartmouth will host Western Connecticut, on Saturday, Jan. 26. |
