RIC’S SEASON COMES TO AN END
Owls Advance to LEC Semifinals |

Keene, NH—Fourth-seeded Keene
State defeated fifth-seeded Rhode Island College, 58-46, in
quarterfinal action of the 2008 Little East Conference Women’s
Basketball Tournament. The Anchorwomen see their season come to an
end, while the Owls will advance to face top-seeded Southern Maine
on Friday, Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. |

It was the final collegiate game for RIC seniors
Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) and Sarah Coughlin (North
Attleboro, MA). Heard went down fighting, posting a
double-double with a game-high 17 points to go along with 10
rebounds. Coughlin logged six points, three assists and four steals.
She closed out her career with 382 assists, ranking second in
program history. Her 152 helpers this campaign is a new RIC
single-season record. |

The Owls (16-10) held an 11-point halftime advantage
and RIC was not able to get any closer than six points in the second
stanza. Sophomore forward Nicole Simmler (Oxford, MA) posted
a double-double of her own with a game-high 14 rebounds, 11 of which
came on the defensive side, and 11 points. Junior forward Jenn
Kinney (Salem, NH) finished one-rebound shy of a double-double
with 10 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Kristin Degou
(Newburyport, MA) led KSC with a 13-point effort. |
