Rhode Island College Men’s & Women’sIndoor
Track & Field Competes at N.E. Open Championships
|

Cambridge,
MA—The
Rhode Island College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams
competed at the 2008 New England Open Championships, hosted by
Boston University on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 29-Mar. 1. |
|
|
|
|
|
The women’s
team tied for 24th place (32 teams) with a score of 4.0
points. |
|
|
|
|
|
Sophomore Steina Flemming (Tortola, BVI) placed
fifth in the finals of the 55 meters with a time of 7.17, breaking
the RIC record she already established earlier this winter. She
placed seventh in the semifinals with a time of 7.23 and 10th
in the preliminaries at 7.29. |

Junior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) placed
ninth in the high jump with a 1.65-meter effort. |
|
|
|
The men’s team tied for 31st place (33
teams) with a score of 2.0 points. |

Senior Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) placed
seventh in the finals of the 500 meters with a time of 1:05.57. He
placed 10th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:05.73. |

in the preliminaries of the 500 meters with a time of 1:06.64. |

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete
at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships,
hosted by Harvard on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 7-8. |
