North Providence’s Barrette and Vongratsavay Win
Little East Conference
at Number One Doubles |

Providence, RI— Rhode
Island College freshman Liz Barrette (North Providence, RI) and
senior Donna Vongratsavay (North Providence, RI) won the
number one doubles flight at the 2002 Little East Conference
Championships, hosted by UMass-Boston, on Oct. 11-12. |

Barrette and Vongratsavay
received a bye in the first round, defeated Hannah Chavez and Coryne
Preston from UMass-Dartmouth (6-3, 6-0) in the semi-finals and
defeated Jamie Hazard and Katie Olsen from Plymouth State (3-6, 6-2,
6-4) in the championship match to win the flight. |

In singles action,
Barrette was eliminated in the semi-finals of the number one singles
flight. She is 8-5 (.615) at number one singles and 11-3 (.786) at
number one doubles for 13.5 points on the season. |
|
|
|
Vongratsavay fell in the
championship match of the number two singles flight. She is 11-3
(.786) at both number two singles and number one doubles for a
team-high 16.5 points. This is Vongratsavay’s fourth LEC title in
her collegiate career. She was an LEC Champion at number two doubles
in 2000 and 2001. She was the LEC Champion at number three singles
in 2000. |

Head Coach Kelly Lange’s
Anchorwomen placed third (five teams) at the 2002 LEC Championships
with 13.0 points. Southern Maine won the championship with 22.0
points and Plymouth State placed second with 14.0 points. |
