2003 Rhode Island College
Women’s Lacrosse Season Summary
|
(3-10 Overall; 0-6 in the Little
East Conference)
|
|
|
|
First-year
Head Coach Ryan Angel’s (Career record: 3-10, .230) team
finished the 2003 season with a 3-10 overall record and a 0-6 (seventh
place) mark in the Little East Conference. The program continued to
make strides in only its third year of existence. RIC set
single-season records for goals, points, ground balls, shots, free
position shots, pass interceptions, draw controls, caused turnovers
and saves in 2003. |

|
Junior
defenseman/goalkeeper Kristin Mandsager (Portsmouth,
RI)
played in
ten games, starting eight of them. She had ten ground balls and two
draw controls. In goal, she had 54 saves, a save percentage of .403,
and a goal-against average of 14.55. Her 14.55 GAA is third in school
history. |

Junior
center Kim Wells (Granby,
CT)
played in
12 games, starting 11 of them. The captain had two goals for two
points, seven ground balls and four draw controls. |

|
|
Sophomore
defenseman Erika Babat (North
Kingstown, RI)
was named
the team’s MVP. The assistant captain played in nine games, starting
all of them. Babat had 28 ground balls, three pass interceptions and
13 draw controls. She ranks first all-time at RIC with 61 career
ground balls and third with four career pass interceptions |

Sophomore
attackman Danielle Beaudry (West
Greenwich, RI)
played in 13 games, starting all of them. The assistant captain had 15
goals and six assists for 21 points, 24 ground balls, one pass
interception, two caused turnovers and 22 draw controls. She is the
school’s all-time assist leader with 10 career helpers, ranks third in
points with 30 and is fourth in goals with 20. |

Sophomore
defensive wing Erin Grant (Coventry,
RI)
played in
13 games, starting all of them. She had eight goals and one assist for
nine points, 37 ground balls, five pass interceptions, five caused
turnovers and 15 draw controls. Her 37 ground balls set a new RIC
single-season record and her five career pass interceptions is second
all-time. |

Sophomore
center Amanda Hutchins (Gilmanton, NH) played in 13 games,
starting all of them. She had 27 goals and three assists for 30
points, 31 ground balls, six pass interceptions, six caused turnovers
and 30 draw controls. Hutchins set RIC single-season marks in points,
goals, free position shots and pass interceptions. She is the school’s
all-time leader in free position shots, goals, points, pass
interceptions, and draw controls. She is tied for the career lead in
ground balls. |

Sophomore
attackman Liz Valeika (Woonsocket, RI) played in ten games,
starting seven of them. She had one goal and one assist for two
points, four ground balls and one draw control. |
|
|
|
Freshman
attack wing Ashley Cardin (Cumberland, RI) played in 13 games,
starting all of them. She had six goals for six points, 28 ground
balls, 12 caused turnovers and six draw controls. Cardin was second on
the club in caused turnovers. |
|
|
|
Freshman
attack wing/goalkeeper Crystal Colagiovanni (Johnston, RI)
played in 13 games, starting all of them. She had three goals and two
assists for five points, 23 ground balls, six caused turnovers and
four draw controls. As a goaltender, she played in nine games,
starting eight of them. She had 89 saves, a save percentage of .500
and a 12.14 goals-against average. She owns the lowest GAA in school
history, and her .500 save percentage stands as a single-season and
career mark at RIC. |

Freshman
attackman Danielle Egan (North Falmouth, MA) was named Second
Team All-Little East. Egan played in 13 games, starting all of them.
She had 17 goals for 17 points, 27 ground balls, five caused turnovers
and 21 draw controls. Her 70 shots and 15 free position shots is
second all-time at RIC. |

Freshman
defensive wing Cara Fusco (Foster, RI) played in nine games,
starting five of them. She had one goal and two assists for three
points and three ground balls. |
|
|
|
Freshman
defenseman Meghan Lehman (Sunderland,
MA)
played in
12 games, starting all of them. She had 22 ground balls, two draw
controls, 15 caused turnovers and one pass interception. Her 15 caused
turnovers were a new RIC single-season record, and places her first
all-time in that category. |
|
|
|
Freshman
attack wing Jessica Maher (Warwick, RI) played in 13 games,
starting all of them. She had three goals and three assists for six
points, 18 ground balls, one caused turnover and three draw controls.

|
|
Freshman
defensive wing Stephanie Sullivan (Westerly, RI) played in 12
games, starting 11 of them. She had three ground balls, one caused
turnover and two draw controls on the season. |
