2002 Women’s Tennis Season Summary
9-5 Overall; 4-1 in the Little East Conference;
Third Place at 2002 Little East Championships |

Providence, RI— First-year
Head Women’s Tennis Coach Kelly Lange (Career Record: 9-5)
saw her team finish the 2002 campaign with a 9-5 overall mark and
post a 4-1 record against Little East Conference opposition. The
Anchorwomen finished third at the 2002 LEC Championships, hosted by
UMass-Boston on Oct. 11-12, with 13.0 points. Southern Maine won the
title with 22.0 points and Plymouth State placed second with 14.0
points. |

The Anchorwomen posted a
7-1 mark at home on the year. RIC was 2-4 on the road. As a team,
RIC was 51-37 in singles matches, a .580 winning percentage. The
squad was 29-17 in doubles, a .630 winning percentage. RIC totaled
80.0 points for the year. |

Senior Sara Hebert
(Cumberland, RI) leaves RIC with a 5-7 (.417) career singles
record and a 9-11 (.450) career doubles mark for 9.5 career points. |

As a senior in 2002,
Hebert was 4-6 (.400) at number six singles and 6-6 (.500) at number
three doubles for 7.0 points. She was sixth on the team in points
and doubles victories, as well as tied for sixth on the team in
singles wins. |

As a junior in 2001,
Hebert did not compete. As a sophomore in 2000, she was 1-1 (.500)
in singles and 3-2 (.600) in doubles for 2.5 points on the year. |
|
As a freshman in 1999,
Hebert competed for Roger Williams University where she went 0-3
(.000) in doubles play. |
|
She is a marketing major
and 1999 graduate of Cumberland High School. |

Senior co-captain Donna
Vongratsavay (North Providence, RI) leaves RIC as the all-time
leader in doubles victories with a career record of 51-14. She ranks
second all-time with 65.5 career points, and is tied for fourth
all-time in singles wins with a 40-14 record. Her career singles
winning percentage of .740 ranks seventh all-time and her doubles
win percentage of .784 ranks fifth in RIC history. |

As a senior in 2002,
Vongratsavay was the Little East Conference Champion at
number one doubles. She went 13-3 on the season (.813) at number two
singles and 13-3 (.813) at number one doubles for 19.5 points. She
led the team in singles victories and points. She tied for the team
lead in doubles wins. |

As a junior in 2001,
Vongratsavay was the Little East Conference Champion at
number two doubles. She was 12-6 (.667) at number three singles and
13-3 (.813) at number two doubles for 18.5 points on the season. She
was tied for third on the team in singles wins. She was tied for
second in points and tied for first in doubles wins. |

As a sophomore in 2000,
she was the Little East Conference Champion at number three singles
and number two doubles. She posted a record of 13-5 (.722) at number
three singles and was 13-4 (.764) at number two doubles for 19.5
points on the season. Vongratsavay led the team in points, singles
wins, doubles wins and doubles winning percentage. |

As a freshman in 1999,
she was 2-0 (1.000) in singles matches and was 12-4 (.750) at number
three doubles for 8.0 points on the year. She was sixth on the team
in total points. |

She is a secondary
education major and 1999 graduate of North Providence High School. |

Junior Samantha Hedden
(Rumford, RI) was 7-7 (.500) at number four singles and 7-8
(.466) at number two doubles for a total of 10.5 points on the
season. |

Junior co-captain Kristin
Mandsager (Portsmouth, RI) was 7-8 (.467) at number five singles
and 9-6 (.571) at number three doubles for a total of 11.5 points on
the season. |

Junior Anabela Pereira
(Pawtucket, RI) was 4-3 (.571) at number six singles and 3-2
(.600) at number three doubles for a total of 5.5 points on the
season. |

Sophomore Meghan
Mooney (Scituate, RI) was 6-5 (.545) at number three singles and
7-6 (.538) at number two doubles for a total of 9.5 points on the
season. |

Freshman Liz Barrette
(North Providence, RI) was the Little East Conference Champion
at number one doubles. Barrette was 10-5 (.667) at number one
singles and 13-3 (.813) at number one doubles for a total of 16.5
points on the season. |
