Who we are

Habitat for Humanity of RI-Greater Providence was formed as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International in 1987. We are a non-profit ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

What we do

Since 1987, we have built hundreds of homes in the area. Families who apply for housing and meet the criteria go through a series of interviews and, if approved, are required to complete 500 hours of sweat equity in the construction of their own homes and other Habitat houses. Habitat works in partnership with God's people in need, building simple, decent homes that are sold at no profit through no-interest loans. Funds, materials, and labor are donated by individuals, churches, and corporations who share the goal of eliminating substandard housing for millions of households living in poverty housing throughout the world.
