In recognition of the College's commitment to teacher education programs and community service professionals, the Rhode Island College Foundation was awarded a permanent endowment by the Feinstein Foundation in 1997.In keeping with the spirit of the endowment, the newly created Feinstein School of Education and Human Development instituted a community service requirement of 25 hours for all initial certification and second degree teacher candidates and formed community partnerships with education based non-profit organizations and Pk-12 schools throughout the state. The requirement and partnerships offer teacher candidates the opportunity to serve others in the pursuit of learning and contributes to their development as productive, caring members of society.
