Community Service

In recognition of the College's commitment to teacher education programs and community service professionals, the Rhode Island College Foundation was awarded a permanent endowment by the Feinstein Foundation in 1997.In keeping with the spirit of the endowment, the newly created Feinstein School of Education and Human Development instituted a community service requirement of 25 hours for all initial certification and second degree teacher candidates and formed community partnerships with education based non-profit organizations and Pk-12 schools throughout the state. The requirement and partnerships offer teacher candidates the opportunity to serve others in the pursuit of learning and contributes to their development as productive, caring members of society.

Volunteer Fair

On Wednesday, November 5, 2008 the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development and Student Activities are hosting a Volunteer Fair in the Student Union Ballroom from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Non-profit organizations from across the state will be on hand to circulate their literature and promote volunteerism.

The Volunteer Fair is an excellent opportunity for students to learn about a variety of volunteer activities including tutoring, mentoring, environment, bilingual education, advocacy, urban programs and more.  The Fair is also a great venue for faculty seeking service learning opportunities and projects.

Attendance at the event is free and open to the entire campus community. Student registration is not required.  There will be door prizes and refreshments.
