Requirement For Teacher Candidates

All undergraduate and second-degree students pursuing teacher certification at Rhode Island College are required to complete 25 hours of community service one semester prior to student teaching. This requirement reflects the belief that a teacher is a professional person following a calling. The community service requirement offers prospective teachers an opportunity to serve others in the pursuit of learning.

Please note that completion of 25 hours of community service is not a requirement for application and acceptance into your education program rather, it is a requirement for student teaching.
